Screen Printing vs. Direct-to-Film Heat Transfers: What's the Difference? What's Best for My Needs?   These are common questions we get when we offer customers the option between screen printing or DTF transfers. So, let us break it down for you!   Screen printing has been—and likely will always be—our bread and butter. At Worldwide Sport Supply, we have four operating presses: two automatic and two manual. Before the transfer era at Worldwide, we screen-printed about 90% of jobs (aside from embroidery). With the use of all our presses, we can put several jobs a day through the dryers, most often completing them before they are due. Oftentimes, jobs of large volume (50+) with one-color prints will automatically be screen printed. Other benefits include the high durability of the inks, the versatility of the materials that can be printed, vibrant ink colors, high opacity, and speed of production. The "downside" to screen printing is that some of our capabilities are limited in terms of the number of ink colors, design placements, and types of designs, so we have pivoted some production to newer technique of Direct-to-Film (DTF) transfers.   Direct-to-Film (DTF) transfers involve printing a design onto a special film using water-based inks, which is then applied to fabric or other materials using heat and pressure. We now have the capability to print these transfers in-house, which has drastically improved our efficiency and ability to complete orders quickly, sometimes as fast as same day. The main benefit of these transfers is that we can print nearly any design with any number of colors or effects exactly as given.  The transfers have different feel compared to screen printing and are marginally less durable, but they remain a great option if you are looking for intricate, colorful designs.   So, which is better? That depends on your needs. As previously mentioned, if you're looking to do a 500-piece, one or two-color design, screen printing is usually the way to go. But if you are looking to open an online store with your company or team's exact logo and offer many designs on the same store, DTF transfers will be the best option for you.   We’re excited to offer both screen printing and DTF transfers as options for our customers, allowing us to provide a wide range of high-quality, durable prints for every project. These printing techniques have not only expanded our capabilities but have also greatly improved our efficiency and ability to deliver exceptional results, helping us grow and thrive as a company.
