  • This month’s employee spotlight is Sam Madsen, a turf specialist for our exterior maintenance team, who has been working in the green industry for 4 years🌿 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐫 𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡? 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐭? I worked at a golf course throughout high school and discovered I wanted to be outside and active all day. I really enjoyed the nuances of turfgrass and wanted to delve deeper into the field. I also really enjoy looking back at my work and taking pride in it, and working in the turfgrass field lets me do that. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐲? I enjoy the flexibility, culture and freedom the company has. I’m able to work on my own throughout the day and manage my time accordingly. I also appreciate that the culture of Wright Outdoor is one of working hard and getting our work done, while also enjoying our time here. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐪𝐮𝐞 𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐝𝐨 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞? I bring the new skill set of turfgrass to our team. With four years of education in the field and actual work experience, I bring a new perspective to our team. 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐞𝐱𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤? The best part about my job is talking to customers and addressing whatever they need. I enjoy taking in clients’ problems and helping to address what those are and giving them the best lawn possible. 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮'𝐫𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐛𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐠? I love spending time with my little family, going out and doing activities with them. I also like to stay active by getting in the gym and going running. 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐟𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞/𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐭, 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫, 𝐚𝐧𝐝/𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬𝐜𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥. The American Sycamore tree is my favorite of all plants. I spent four years in Ames and saw a lot of old sycamores there, so I quickly became a fan. Thank you, Sam, for the expertise and dedication you bring to the team!

  • Our team had a wonderful time at this year's Des Moines University (DMU) Glanton Event🎉 The Glanton Fund supports DMU's goal "to create a campus environment that encourages an appreciation for the cultural differences that exist in society and attracts students of all backgrounds to be part of the university and the greater Des Moines community." The fund generates scholarships to enable promising students to attend DMU as well as support university programming that explores an appreciation for cultural differences. We are proud to be a Defender sponsor for the fund!
