This is mentoring in action! WrightChoice Mentees never know when their mentor is going to drop in on them wherever they are! WrightChoice Mentee Heaven Angel was excited to see and spend time with her mentor Iketha Riley while she was attending a conference in Montgomery, Alabama:-) Heaven is a criminal justice major at Alabama State and Iketha is a criminal investigator for the Ohio Public Defender’s Office **PerfectMatch** During their meet up, Heaven met Iketha’s coworkers and even had a good conversation with the person in charge of internships!!! We ask our mentors to play a role in helping to increase their mentees networks and social capital. This is #MentoringInAction. ***Long Post but go on this journey with me*** September is WrightChoic’s Birthday!🎉💯🎉🎊 As I sit back and reminisce over 22 years of WrightChoice, I am filled with immense pride and gratitude. What began as a vision (in my bedroom) to create opportunities for young people, grew to impact generations through internship placements, summer youth employment, career readiness, pre-law rotations, disability inclusion advocacy and more. Over the years, we’ve witnessed the power of connections and how it transforms lives. The last four years, our shift to mentoring has deepened our impact, helping our mentees navigate their college journey or college to career transition. Because of wisdom and guidance of, yet one more caring adult in their corner, they are able to move with confidence. Although our daily operations have scaled back, the need for our work has never been greater. The challenges faced by our youth, especially those with disabilities, continue to grow, and our commitment to them remains unwavering. That’s why I’m reaching out to you today.
