Norway is one of the first countries in the world to open for deep seabed mining activities 🌊 WWF Verdens naturfond believes the opening decision is based on an insufficient impact assessment, and has taken legal action against the government. WWF Global Arctic Programme stands with WWF-Norway in their mission to protect this area that extends into Arctic waters. The trial starts today, 28 November 2024, in the Oslo District court. We know more about the surface of the moon and Mars than the deep sea. Yet, it’s in these areas that we now risk destroying vulnerable nature, despite knowing far too little about the consequences 🪼🪐 Share this post to help us spread the word and #DefendTheDeep! #ThinkDeeply #Arctic

It's World Walrus Day and we need your help with walrus conservation ❄️ Since 2021, the British Antarctic Survey and WWF-UK have been asking the public to help with conservation science by searching for and counting walrus in thousands of satellite images taken from space 🛰️ Your support will help scientists understand how climate change may be impacting Atlantic walrus populations in Canada, Greenland and the Norwegian Arctic. The more we know, the better we can help safeguard walrus in the future ❄️ Donate some time and help support walrus conservation 🔗: https://lnkd.in/gkexFy6v #WalrusFromSpace #WorldWalrusDay #Arctic

Our ocean is at a critical tipping point. For decades, the ocean has absorbed the impacts of burning fossil fuels, buffering us from the worst effects of the #ClimateCrisis. But record-breaking marine heatwaves are pushing ecosystems to the edge. A warmer Arctic Ocean is a more acidic ocean with implications for the entire food chain and broader ecosystem. As the ocean warms, the cascading impacts have far-reaching consequences, affecting people, food security, economies, and global stability. Truly, we’re #InHotWater. It’s time to stop burning fossil fuels and urgently transition to renewables. The ocean – and all of us – depend on it. #COP29 #ActForOurPlanet #Arctic
