Happy #protectmypublicmediaday! Today we’re celebrating the power of public media and posting messages that people have shared with us on why WXXI matters to them. Stephanie LaScala-Lodato writes, "WXXI has been a staple for local news that my other source doesn't cover. I've stayed up-to-date on local issues that matter to me, like how our national housing crisis has affected people in Rochester and organizations that serve them." From local news to proven educational resources for children and families, public media keeps communities connected. Learn more at protectmypublicmedia.org #protectpublicmedia #protectwxxi

Congratulations to Karen DeWitt, former Capitol Bureau Chief for WXXI and the New York Public News Network, for receiving the 2025 RTDNA Foundation's Lifetime Achievement Award! Throughout her long career, she covered the changing fortunes of the Cuomos — both Mario and Andrew — the fall of Eliot Spitzer, the election of former First Lady Hillary Clinton to the U.S. Senate, and the election of the state’s first female governor. The RTDNA Foundation says: “State political reporting is critically important to a functioning American democracy, and few in the country did it better than Karen DeWitt. For decades, she served the people of New York by challenging politicians in Albany and holding them accountable for their votes, their words, and their actions. Karen set a high bar for statehouse reporting in the United States.” We couldn't agree more! Read the full announcement here: https://bit.ly/4k7e6wQ

WXXI was proud to be the media sponsor for this year's Division of Diversity & Inclusion - RIT "Expressions of King's Legacy" featuring Deborah Archer! Ms. Archer shared an excellent and timely discussion about the work of the ACLU "Defending the rights of all people nationwide" and how these rights relate to Dr. King's vision and legacy.

"Sunday mornings can be a time for many to rejoice — some in communion together at a worship service and others in quiet reflection. For some, it’s done alongside a radio program broadcasting from WXXI Classical in Rochester, New York. 'With Heart and Voice' — a long-running celebration of sacred choral and organ music — has touched listeners across the country for nearly 50 years." - Check out this story by noncomMusic Alliance spotlighting WXXI Classical's nationally syndicated program, hosted by Peter DuBois, that presents sacred choral and organ music recordings from around the world.
