Don't miss the upcoming Prague PostgreSQL Meetup on Monday, February 24 at 17:30, hosted by AWS Prague in their Karlin office. Pavlo Golub will present on the new features of pgwatch v3, and Belma Canik will discuss AI-powered text search with pgvector for PostgreSQL. Attendees can learn, network, and enjoy light refreshments. Check out the LinkedIn event for more details: https://lnkd.in/ecBgUdm3
The first event of 2025 will take place on Monday, February 24th, at 17:30 at Amazon Web Services (AWS), Karlin offices. Venue Sponsor: AWS We thank Ernst-Robert Weckerling for helping us secure a venue for our February meetup at AWS. We will have two speakers: Pavlo Golub and Belma Canik Pavlo Golub is a PostgreSQL contributor, GSoC Org Admin, and a Senior Developer and Expert at CYBERTEC PostgreSQL Services and Support. He's been working with PostgreSQL since 2002. He has an M.Ed. with an emphasis in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Central Ukrainian State Pedagogical University. He is the co-founder of PostgreSQL Ukraine. He develops and maintains the PostgresDAC and pgxmock libraries, as well as the pgwatch, pg_timetable, and vip_manager projects. Belma Canik is a Senior Database Specialist Technical Account Manager (STAM) at Amazon Web Services (AWS); she has over two decades of experience working with relational databases. She helps customers run optimized workloads on AWS and make the best out of their cloud journey, especially in Amazon RDS and Aurora Database Engines. Agenda 17:30 Doors open 18:00 - 18:15 Opening talk by Gülçin Yıldırım Jelínek 18:15 - 18:45 Getting Started with pgwatch v3: Features, Installation, and Use Cases by Pavlo Golub 18:45 - 19:15 Coffee break & Networking 19:15 - 19:45 Beyond Keywords: AI-powered Text Search with pgvector for PostgreSQL by Belma Canik 19:45 - 20:00 Closing 20:30 End of event Getting Started with pgwatch v3: Features, Installation, and Use Cases - Pavlo Golub In this talk, Pavlo Golub will introduce pgwatch, now in its third major version. He’ll begin with the basics, how to install and configure pgwatch v3 to monitor your PostgreSQL instances effectively. Then, he’ll walk you through its key features, demonstrating how it can help you track performance, detect bottlenecks, and optimize database operations. He’ll also compare pgwatch v3 with other monitoring solutions, highlighting its unique advantages and use cases. Pavlo looks forward to your questions and insights during the session. Whether you're new to PostgreSQL monitoring or already familiar with other tools, this talk will offer valuable takeaways and spark an engaging discussion. Beyond Keywords: AI-powered Text Search with pgvector for PostgreSQL The session discusses challenges with current search algorithms with vast and complex datasets. This talk delves into a revolutionary approach: semantic search with pgvector for PostgreSQL. pgvector makes use of vector embeddings, which capture the meaning behind words rather than their exact presence. This allows searches to comprehend the purpose of user queries, producing more relevant results. In the talk, we demystified complex pgvector search algorithms along with recent innovations. We presented a use case demo using Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Aurora for PostgreSQL for product similarity search in an online retail store by going into the depth of pgvector search methods.
