About us

Established in 2018, xCures is a pioneer in healthcare data management. Our primary focus is on achieving data completeness and providing real-time data access. We gather and standardize detailed medical records from various healthcare sources, utilizing direct retrieval from US institutions, patient portals, and electronic health exchanges. The collected data is digitized, organized, and examined using Natural Language Processing to efficiently identify features, resulting in a comprehensive longitudinal patient journey that covers everything from genomics to social determinants of health. We have processed over 140 million records from thousands of different medical practices and implemented our technology for a significant number of patients. All the collected data elements are thoroughly annotated in a central Electronic Data Capture (EDC) system to ensure standardization and ongoing accuracy.   • A recent commentary by researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Equality AI, and Boston University emphasized the need for comprehensive regulation of AI models and traditional algorithms in medical settings. The U.S. Office for Civil Rights has introduced a rule under the Affordable Care Act to prevent discrimination in "patient care decision support tools," encompassing AI and non-automated systems. This initiative aims to ensure equitable treatment across diverse patient populations. Marzyeh Ghassemi, an associate professor at MIT, highlights that this regulation is a significant advancement. She advocates for equity-driven enhancements to existing clinical decision-support tools, both AI-based and traditional. As of October, the FDA has approved nearly 1,000 AI-enabled medical devices, a substantial increase since the first approval in 1995.   • Are we regulating Healthcare AI wisely? The Paragon Health Institute’s recent report by Kev Coleman warns that misregulation of AI could increase costs and delay life-saving advancements. A few key points from the report: ➡️ The U.S. saw nearly 700 AI-related legislative proposals in 2024, compared to just 191 in 2023. ➡️ FDA-approved AI applications have already detected cancers years earlier than radiologists could. ➡️ Some AI tools now match or outperform human clinicians in specific tasks, such as diagnosing medical images or predicting cardiovascular risk. Yet, challenges remain. Blanket regulations fail to account for the diversity of AI technologies. For instance, generative AI faces unique risks like “hallucinations,” while traditional machine learning does not. Without tailored rules, we risk stifling innovation or introducing unnecessary costs for low-risk applications. The report urges policymakers to balance safety with innovation. Regulatory sandboxes and context-specific rules are key to ensuring AI can save more lives while maintaining rigorous safety standards.   • Did you know? 62.7% of adults in the U.S. believe it is "very true" they want to be notified when AI is used in their healthcare decisions. Transparency isn’t just a buzzword—it’s a public expectation. Recent research published in JAMA reveals fascinating insights into how Americans feel about being informed about AI in healthcare: ➡️ 𝟔𝟐.𝟕% of adults said notification is "very true" for them, while only 𝟒.𝟖% felt it was "not at all important." ➡️ Interest in notification rises with age, with those aged 60+ scoring 𝟑.𝟓𝟕 (on a 4-point scale) compared to 𝟑.𝟏𝟒 for those aged 18–29. ➡️ Women expressed greater desire for notification (𝟑.𝟒𝟓) than men (𝟑.𝟑𝟐). ➡️ Education level matters too—those with some college education scored 𝟑.𝟓𝟐, compared to 𝟑.𝟏𝟒 for those with less than a high school education. The data is clear: as healthcare systems rely more on AI, the question isn’t 𝑤ℎ𝑒𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟 𝑡𝑜 notify patients, but ℎ𝑜𝑤 𝑡𝑜 do so in a way that is ethical, equitable, and builds trust.   • Artificial intelligence is having an influence on mental healthcare, but what about the ethical and trust challenges it brings? A recent study surveyed 500 U.S. adults and revealed critical insights. While many see AI's potential, concerns about transparency, bias, and over-reliance are prevalent, especially among vulnerable populations. Key highlights: ➡️ 𝟒𝟑% of participants had a history of mental illness, emphasizing the need for AI solutions that address diverse experiences. ➡️ 𝟔𝟒% said AI must reduce negative outcomes to earn their trust. ➡️ 𝟐𝟗% of respondents with "fair" or "poor" mental health were uncomfortable sharing sensitive data for AI improvements. ➡️ Women and Baby Boomers expressed greater discomfort with AI diagnosing mental health conditions. ➡️ Participants with financial constraints worried about increased mental healthcare costs, with 𝟒𝟓% citing concerns. ➡️ Those with inadequate health literacy underestimated AI risks but placed less emphasis on privacy. One standout finding: participants with mental health challenges rated transparency in AI decision-making as "very important" at a rate of 𝟕𝟑%.
