A Patriots fan, a Commanders fan, and a Panthers fan walk into CEMA-Corporate Event Marketing Association Summit… I had so much fun moderating a session this morning between the fabulous Jessica Weickert and Lindsey. Haigler — all about experience strategy that wins. We unpacked how Lowe’s was able to lean into Super Bowl momentum for its annual Store Managers Meeting this past February to craft a smart, compelling, culturally-rich event experience. And we dug into how any brand or organization has the power to completely transform its events with the right creative strategy. (While, of course, rocking matching NFL bombers repping our home teams, which made it infinitely more fun.) Shout out to Matt Schrader for taking the world's worst photos of our session. 😜 Here were some of my favorite pro tips that came out of this session: 📣 Your theme is often the most overlooked and underestimated part of any corporate event. It should never just be words slapped on a theme graphic. It’s the story you’re trying to tell — the rallying cry that unites, unifies, and inspires. Give it a little edge, make people pay attention, and put your story front and center at all times. ❤️ The traditional Think / Feel / Know / Do model is dead. It’s simpler than that. If you want to tell a story at the heart, you must tell a story for the heart. Neuroscience shows that when we feel, we act. We need to focus on the emotion, the feels. And everything else will follow. 😎 The human problem > the business problem. Strip everything down until there’s only one single unifying human truth left by asking “why?”. This can serve as a filter for every single creative idea you have. If it doesn’t serve the story, then it’s just muddying the message. 🏈 Tapping into cultural moments in an authentic way enables your brand, your message, and your story to become a part of a zeitgeist of something bigger. Because when something resonates as authentic, it drives human behavior. 🥁 Don’t look at your event as a singular moment in time. Instead, find ways to make it a steady drumbeat. Consider how your event can seamlessly extend, deepen, and cultivate a winning culture, rather than merely reflecting it. Do any of these tips resonate?
