Our office turned up the heat with an epic Chili Cook-Off this week! From spicy to savory, everyone brought their A-game (and their secret recipes). It wasn’t just about the chili—our team showed up with big smiles, plenty of laughs, and a shared love for good food. A huge shoutout to everyone who participated, judged, or just enjoyed a bowl (or two)! This is what makes XL special—coming together, making memories, and adding a little spice to our day. #BuildToImproveLives #Teamwork #ChiliCookOff

It was a pleasure to join yesterday's discussion with the Cal Poly Gateway Decathlon team and contribute to shaping the project’s next steps. The insightful dialogue on the efficiency of your design, prefabrication, and assembly will no doubt help streamline the journey toward construction! We’re excited to see how XL’s expertise, alongside TimberQuest’s innovations, will positively impact your vision. Special thanks to Maryam Kouhirostami, Ph.D. and Jeong Woo for organizing such a productive session – we look forward to ongoing collaboration! #BuildToImproveLives #MassTimber #Prefabrication #Construction
As we approach our third deliverable due at the end of next month, we are looking ahead to construction! With the help of representatives from XL Construction and TimberQuest yesterday, we discussed the practicality of our design and ways to efficiently assemble our module from start to finish. Pre-fabrication, shipment techniques, and field construction were all discussed thoroughly yesterday as we finalize our drawing sets and details. Ensuring clean finishes, efficient and accessible electrical wiring, and a smooth assembly-to-disassembly process were among the several topics discussed and we are better for it all! Thank you again, David Beck and Matt Larson, for your advice. We are considering your thoughtful critiques as we move forward and believe they will contribute greatly to the outcome of our project! Also, thank you to Maryam Kouhirostami, Ph.D. and Jeong Woo for organizing yesterday’s meeting! #prefabrication #gatewaydecathlon #CLT #crosslaminatedtimber #masstimber #sustainability #netzero #construction #constructionmanagement #calpoly #calpolyconstructionmanagement

We are excited to share some new renderings of the Elkhorn Village Elementary School Modernization Project in Washington Unified School District! The design offers two protected drop-off areas with enhanced gated entrances, nine new classroom buildings and comprehensive modernization to the rest of the spaces, with each of the existing classroom buildings gaining an outdoor sitting area with shade sails. The pre-K and kindergarten classrooms will have a dedicated gated entrance and protected playground area. Building A/B will have the biggest transformation consisting of a kitchen expansion, an additional health unit being added to the administration area and a complete remodel to the balance of the spaces. Studio W Architects looks forward to creating new spaces for the West Sacramento community to learn, imagine and collaborate. As a way to increase value for the school, while ensuring cost conscious solutions, the Studio W Architects and XL Construction Company have incorporated TimberQuest buildings for the new classroom buildings. The TimberQuest buildings feature prefabricated wall and roof panels, which will expedite construction compared to traditional stick-built construction.

We had an incredible experience connecting with over 800 high school students at the Construction Industry Education Foundation (CIEF) Santa Cruz Trades Day event! Students got hands-on insights into careers in construction as we showcased exciting drone footage and cutting-edge construction tech tools. It was inspiring to see so many young people curious about the pathways from high school to a fulfilling career in construction. Our team also directed students to the Build California booth, where they could explore training resources and career guidance. Together, we're building the future of construction! #BuildToImproveLives #FutureOfConstruction
