The future of oil.

About us

Xylome is a synthetic biology company with a deep understanding and proprietary genomic tools for the manipulation of non-conventional yeasts. Xylome's mission is to create sustainable ingredients, such as a white RBD palm oil bio-identical replacement, and a fish oil bio-identical replacement, for large markets, which have sustainability issues or for very high value products for unmet medical needs. Xylome leverages our lipid-based technology for high value drug delivery products for internal and external programs involving hydrophobic drug delivery and topical pharmaceutical products. Our lead internal program is the development of a new class of antifungal for serve burns in a world-wide license agreement with the University of Wisconsin.

  • The data is in and supports a purer solution for tropical deforestation. Xylome's Yoil ®️ has 120-fold less chlorinated hydrocarbons (2-MCPD and 3-MCPD) than the limit allowed in bleached palm oils. Yoil is a bioidentical replacement for RBD palm oil.

  • Deforestation caused by palm oil is a hard problem, and at Xylome we are proud to be one of the companies working on a sustainable solution. Thank you for highlighting this tragic, but important report from Rainforest Action Network.

We've decided to take on a very hard problem at C16 Biosciences. We hear that a lot! And we also hear a lot of pushback from entrenched industry interest: "We've solved deforestation." "Deforestation from palm oil is no longer a problem." I've heard it from incumbent palm oil producers, large CPG buyers of palm oil, and the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil. Everyone wants to claim that they don't have a palm oil problem. But they do. Deforestation in the palm oil industry remains rampant, and the latest satellite data published and commissioned by Rainforest Action Network is heartbreaking. "Rainforest Action Network's latest report taps satellite data to capture unprecedented 30cm resolution imagery to map the extent of illegal deforestation since the deforestation cut-off dates adopted by the palm oil sector’s No Deforestation, No Peatland and No Exploitation (NDPE) policy commitments, and the emerging European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). This report documents the alarming destruction of some of the highest-priority conservation areas within the Leuser Ecosystem, a renowned hotspot for biological diversity and carbon sequestration. This is the first time that high-resolution imagery showing the extent of palm oil development in this region has been published, showing the extent of the palm oil development crisis in this region." Palm oil doesn't need to be a problem. But it still is. And it will remain so unless we deploy radically different systems. Full report here: https://lnkd.in/e9FgeHXV

  • Last week, we attended the Future Food-Tech conference in Chicago. The food tech ecosystem in the Chicago area is incredible, and it was great to connect with so many of our local partners! We had the opportunity to engage with VCs, other exciting startups, and users of Yoil, our sustainable palm oil. The talks, roundtables, and networking sessions were particularly enriching, providing us with new perspectives and ideas. A big shoutout to the organizers for putting together such an impactful event, and to all the speakers and exhibitors who shared their knowledge. We're already looking forward to next year!
