Yahoo rarely does #superbowl ads, but when we do, it's usually something unusual.
Back in 2002, that meant a talking dolphin that's still an all-time favorite. Today, the bar to break through is much higher, so there was only one person to call: Bill Murray.
Luckily, the elusive Bill not only took our call, but helped craft an interactive, multi-platform mystery that started with an unconventional 15 second spot just before halftime (bought locally in the top 20 markets), carried over into a halftime BillCam livestream seen by millions on the new Yahoo.com, and ended with several original videos delivered to everyone's inbox from Bill's Yahoo Mail account. Send Bill an email at BillHimself@yahoo.com if you missed it. He'll still get back to you.
Thanks to Bill Murray, his brother Brian Doyle-Murray, and their partner Mitch Glazer, to our agency American Haiku, and to all of the Yahoos who worked tirelessly to pull this thing off. It was a pretty insane experience all around. The results were off the charts, landing as the #4 most watched Super Bowl ad on YouTube on Sunday, the #7 trending video on all of YouTube on Monday, and landing on several Best Of lists. Just one unique step on the Yahoo brand journey, but one we'll all remember.
