Giving Thanks and Looking Ahead This Thanksgiving, I’m reflecting on the connections that shape our lives and the mission we work so hard to advance at YFU. Our focus on building bridges between cultures, families, and communities feels more vital than ever. I’m deeply thankful for: • The students who inspire us with their courage and hope for a better, more connected world. • The host families who show that open hearts and homes can transcend any divide. • The local coordinators, volunteers, and staff who dedicate themselves to fostering understanding and mutual respect. • And our global partners, who remind us that the strength of our work lies in our shared commitment to unity. This year, as we give thanks, we also recognize the challenges ahead. At a time when division can feel pervasive, our mission—to create connections that foster empathy, learning, and shared humanity—has never been more critical. Gratitude isn’t passive; it calls us to act with purpose and resolve. Let’s move forward together with that sense of purpose, strengthening the bonds that unite us and bringing the spirit of exchange to even more lives in the year to come. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Celebrating International Education Week: A Journey of Unity, Diversity, and Inclusion In the wake of recent elections and amidst global uncertainties, it's clear that our shared humanity is what truly unites us. As we reflect on this International Education Week, I am reminded of the power of connection in bridging divides and fostering understanding. At YFU USA, we witness daily how cultural exchange transforms not just students, but host families, schools, and entire communities. Each exchange represents a step toward a more united, compassionate world—one that values diversity and thrives on inclusion. The stories of students stepping out of their comfort zones, of families opening their homes and hearts to "the world," inspire us to see beyond borders and celebrate the beauty in our differences. Let us not lose sight of this. Let this week serve as a reminder: every conversation, every cultural connection, every act of openness, every act of kindness matters. Together, we are building a world where understanding and empathy shine brighter than division. If you've ever hosted, studied abroad, or simply shared your culture with someone new, thank you. You are the bridge-builders, the peacemakers, and the changemakers. Let's continue this work—one person, one exchange, one connection at a time. #InternationalEducationWeek #WeAreYFU #YFUSpirit #YFU #YFUUSA #UnityThroughExchange #CulturalDiversity #GlobalCitizenship #InclusionMatters

  • We're incredibly proud of our work through the USA For You, Germany For You, and CBYX programs, which foster lifelong connections between the U.S. and Germany. These programs allow students to experience new cultures, learn invaluable skills, and become global citizens. As highlighted in the recent U.S.-Germany partnership reaffirmation announcement by the White House, initiatives like these strengthen the bonds between our nations, creating shared values and opportunities for future generations. We’re honored to be part of such a meaningful mission, shaping tomorrow’s leaders through international exchange! ✈️🌏 Read more about this announcement in our newest blog and check out this throwback Thursday pic of our 2019 USA For You participants at the Washington Monument! https://hubs.ly/Q02X_bZ00 #cbyx #yfugermany #yfuusa

In the wake of the U.S. election, YFU USA understands that many around the world are watching with a mix of emotions and questions about what this means for the future of intercultural exchange and global understanding. At YFU USA, we remain committed to the values that unite us all: empathy, respect, and the belief that bringing people together across cultures creates a more inclusive world. Now, more than ever, we are here to support our students, foster meaningful connections, and ensure safe, enriching experiences for all. Programs like the YES, FLEX, and CBYX grants underscore the power of intercultural exchange, especially in complex times. They serve as bridges across cultural and political divides, offering young people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to experience new perspectives and grow into globally-minded leaders. This work wouldn’t be possible without the dedication of our host families, local coordinators, volunteers, and donors, who share these ideals and make these experiences a reality. We know that questions may arise as we all try to process what these results mean for our shared mission. Together, we’ll continue building bridges and fostering the global understanding that transcends political divides. How else do you see intercultural exchange playing a role in these complex times? #YFU #GlobalCitizenship #InterculturalExchange #YESProgram #FLEXProgram #CBYX #Inclusion #Empathy

  • Durjan is a current exchange student in the U.S. Thanks to a scholarship, she's been able to create memories to last a lifetime. But don't take our word for it! Learn more about her experience in her own words: "As I reflect on my journey as an exchange student from Pakistan, I can hardly believe how much I’ve grown in such a short time. Coming to America has been an incredible opportunity that has opened my eyes to new experiences and empowered me in ways I never thought possible. Growing up in a region where cultural barriers often limit the aspirations of girls, my decision to participate in this program felt like stepping into the unknown...I hope that my journey can serve as a beacon for other girls in my community, showing them that they, too, can break through barriers and chase their dreams... Living with my host family has been one of the highlights of my experience. From our cozy movie nights to weekend outings exploring local attractions, every moment has been filled with joy and laughter. They have welcomed me into their home with open arms, making me feel like a part of their family. Through my scholarship and the support of YFU, I’ve had the chance to make lasting friendships with people from all walks of life. This journey has taught me the value of being open-minded, embracing different perspectives, and learning to communicate fluently in English... I am eager to continue exploring new hobbies and cultures, sharing my story, and learning from those around me. This program has not only changed my life but has also instilled in me a sense of responsibility to inspire others back home. I am immensely grateful to YFU USA for this transformative experience. They have not only provided me with the opportunity to grow and learn but have also empowered me to be a pioneer for other girls in Pakistan. I hope to return home with new knowledge, experiences, and the determination to encourage others to follow their dreams, just as I did."
