I develop impactful leaders in youth sports.

Meet them where they are… Increased investment in our young athletes shouldn’t equate to increased expectations. Development still takes time. Save the direct ROI correlation for the pro level and maybe even college in this era of NIL. Meet them where they are and bring them along. Reverse the trend…. The current climate of youth sports: *Don’t like the coach, find a new team. *Not getting enough recognition, find a better league or a new school. *Too much competition at the current level, reclassify. *Not developing the skills fast enough, hire a more expensive personal coach. As UCLA Men’s Basketball Coach, Mick Cronin said in a recent Youth Inc. podcast regarding high level athletes who don’t succeed: “They skip steps.” 🔷Play the long game: Teach your players to fight through! As coaches and parents it’s our job to help our athletes understand their roles, while encouraging them to battle through the challenges. Resilience is part of the process. We have to walk before we can run… In order to develop a young leader, we have to teach him/her to be a leader of one first. Young athletes must learn responsibility and accountability before they can be entrusted to lead others. Show me a player who: * shows up on time * carries their own gear * stands game-ready at all times * cleans up after themselves Mastery of these simple tasks exemplifies a leader of one who is ready to lead others. • The line has been blurred between showing up for your team versus showing out. Many young athletes all too often think they are one and the same. The true leaders know the difference. We must teach our athletes that difference. Showing out is individually focused. Showing up includes: 👉🏼be a model practice player (focus, intensity and attention to detail) 👉🏼 pregame preparation (sleep and nutrition) 👉🏼 in-game application (listen to feedback) 👉🏼consistent attitude including high-level sportsmanship (the hallmark of a leader and “captain”) ✳️Showing up for your team doesn’t always “show up” in the game stats. It’s our job as coaches/parents/leaders to teach and value our athletes contributions over stats alone. #youthsports #sportsleadership #ysleadership

  • I’ve noticed a trend in my players… fear of failure in practice sessions. Striving for perfection and consistent approval, even at practice, while seemingly admirable, is actually unhealthy IMO. Young athletes should be granted the grace from coaches and themselves, to make mistakes, especially in practice. Fear of failure in favor of perfection, stunts growth and improvement, and squashes creativity. As coaches and leaders, we MUST normalize, and even encourage, failure. We can do this by: 1) challenging players to push beyond their comfort zones (i.e. weak hand) 2) let them play through- don’t stop play for every single mistake 3) providing constructive feedback- point out mistakes that were made while also highlighting the elements of growth and improvement Without failure, we will never grow. #ysleadership #youthsports

I’ll forever be blown away by the incredible story of Welles Crowther (the man in the red bandana) among the countless other heroes on that fateful day of 9/11/01. It’s an honor for the lacrosse community to even be associated with such a selfless individual. As a coach, teaching players about the legends of the sport for their impact on the field goes without saying. But Welles Crowther holds a special place in my pantheon of lacrosse greats for his leadership, bravery and selfless heroism. Take a few minutes to watch this moving piece. And props to the PLL for furthering his legacy last month during the 🥍 playoffs. #19forever #manintheredbandana #neverforget

Remembering Welles Crowther on this day 23 yrs ago — a former Boston College lacrosse player, stock broker and volunteer firefighter. Since he was a boy, he carried his father’s red handkerchief with him everywhere. Welles was in the South Tower when a plane struck the building on 9/11. The man in the red bandana and other first responders chose to save the lives of many others ahead of themselves. True heroes. This past weekend we were honored to host Mrs. Alison Crowther at our semifinal games. She continues to share his story and honor his legacy — the Premier Lacrosse League Humanitarian Award is named after Welles. #NeverForget

I struggle to sometimes find my direction, my perceived purpose, to "chase what matters" as described in an impactful keynote clip from Yogi Roth. My career pursuits have often gravitated toward achieving monetary success to support my family, or gaining the approval of others for nothing more that feeling like what I do 'matters'. Even this morning, I woke up questioning my direction for today. But I remembered that what MATTERS to me is already in my crosshairs, it's the discipline to hone in on that pursuit is what sometimes falters. Coaching, teaching, mentoring other coaches fills that cup for me. Youth Sports Leadership Partners is my vehicle! I just needed the reminder, and this clip👇 pulled me back in. Exciting things to come!

  • The early stages of development of any organization can seem like a daunting task to make the climb from the bottom, especially in the current youth sports culture. However as a leader, I view starting from the bottom as an opportunity to create a winning culture for the long term. #youthsports #leadership #winningculture #opportunityforsuccess

Best day/worst day... We rarely can control what happens to us, but we can always control how we respond. And I believe it’s the best leaders who can make the most of the worst experiences. For what it’s worth, I’m proud of how I handled it. And it left no doubt why I started Youth Sports Leadership Partners #youthsports #leadership #lifelessons #wearecoming
