  • 🎁 On this #GivingTuesday, we're celebrating youth civic power! In New York, we saw an 8.3% jump in voter registration among 18-19 year olds this election cycle. At YVote, we're energized that young people are ready to make their voices heard. As we gear up for the 2025 NYC municipal elections, our mission to empower youth civic leadership is more crucial than ever. Want to see our impact in action? Check out the photos from our 2024 Fall Changemakers Institute below! Full annual report coming later this month. • YVote Changemakers gathered last week to analyze factors that influence #voting, strengthen their #medialiteracy skills, and explore the importance of teamwork in civics ⚡ 🗳️ Together, they evaluated #misinformation techniques used in this #election season and discussed how influential, and dangerous, mis- and disinformation can be. When asked about the importance of media literacy during an election season, Changemakers shared: "Misinformation and disinformation are on the rise, and it's important to know it when we see it so we don't contribute to a never-ending cycle of ignorance." "Media literacy skills matter especially during an election year because more and more people are starting to use social media, thus making it our news source and where we go to look for information. If misinformation spreads, it spreads quicker." "People want to support their respective political parties, and some do this by taking things out of context or completely fabricating things to shame the other political party. Hence, it’s very important to, in order to make an informed decision, to be media literate." Have YOU seen election misinformation and disinformation online? How are you and your peers fighting it?
