What is the cost of inaction for the continent and beyond? These are some of the questions that will be tackled next week, on the 4th of December, at the third #RoadToKampala webinar by the Zero Hunger Coalition. 🎙️ Among the speakers: Jeremy Lissouba, Jason Rosario Braganza, African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD), Lebogang Ramafoko, Oxfam South Africa OZA, ( FICP) Jerry Ntare, Agaciro Development Fund. 🔗 Register: https://lnkd.in/eC_fTYGv #Financing #SustainableFinance #EndHunger #FoodSystemTransformation SDG2 Advocacy Hub The Consortium of African Youth in Agriculture and Climate Change (CAYACC) Bruce Campbell Global Donor Platform for Rural Development Panafrican Farmers Organisation Lawrence Haddad CMG Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) Michael Keller Leonard Mizzi International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) Raharinomena Fanja Maximo Torero FAO
📢 The 3rd #RoadToKampala webinar is in one week! 📆 "Unlocking finance to deliver on the promise of the Post-Malabo Agenda" 🗓️ 4 December online ⏰ 2 pm CET / 4 pm EAT / 8 am EST 🎙️ Moderator: Jeremy Lissouba, Member of Parliament, Republic of Congo, and Sec-Gen of the African Food Systems Parliamentary Network 🔗 Register: https://lnkd.in/eC_fTYGv 🌍 Africa is advancing the third phase of CAADP, a transformative framework designed to shape the continent’s agrifood systems over the coming decade. Building on past iterations, CAADP3 aims to boost agricultural productivity, promote multi-sectoral collaboration, and address persistent issues of food insecurity and malnutrition. With a strong focus on regional collaboration and sustainable growth, CAADP3 represents Africa’s commitment to self-sufficiency, climate resilience, and sustainable economic development. 💵 To deliver on this ambition, there is an urgent need to mobilise domestic resources, grant funding and innovative finance to scale up policies and programmes. However, the fiscal space to implement CAADP3 is challenging with many countries in Africa facing unsustainable debt levels. The climate crisis further fuels the risk. 🔵 How can Africa mobilise the resources necessary to implement the Post-Malabo Agenda? 🔵 What are its financing options? 🔵 What are the reforms needed at the global, regional and national levels? 🔵 How should we be thinking about the cost of implementing CAADP3? 🔵 What is the cost of inaction for the continent and beyond? We are excited to co-organise this high-level webinar with the Africa Food Systems Parliamentary Network, Oxfam in Africa Shamba Centre for Food & Climate, SDG2 Advocacy Hub and The Consortium of African Youth in Agriculture and Climate Change (CAYACC). 🎙️ Jason Rosario Braganza, African Forum and Network on Debt and Development (AFRODAD), Fadhel Kaboub فاضل قابوب, Power Shift Africa, Lebogang Ramafoko, OXFAM South Africa, ( FICP) Jerry Ntare, Agaciro Development Fund. #caadp #FoodSystemTransformation #Financing #COP29

Last week, the Coordinator for the Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge Lysiane L. attended the The Graça Machel Trust Women Creating Wealth Programme event in Johannesburg. In addition to meeting Victoria Mwafulirwa from the Pledge company Homes Industries, Lysiane spoken on a panel about the role of companies to advance the zero-hunger, sustainable development agenda. 💡 According to a recently published a report by FAO and UNIDO, we can achieve zero hunger using an income-generating approach through value addition. We can end hunger by focusing on driving growth in productivity and income in the agrifood sector. How? 1️⃣ Increase efficiency at the farm level, including mechanisation, and irrigation 2️⃣ Build up the infrastructure, from transport to energy 3️⃣ Invest in the domestic processing, distribution and retail sectors for value addition at the country level 4️⃣ Boost fair and competitive markets, including strong regulatory frameworks and trading agreements 5️⃣ Unlock supply chain finance for the SMEs in the ‘missing middle’ 6️⃣ Promote innovative blends of public and private finance for sustainable agrifood systems And for companies, this means 👉 Sustainably increase productivity at the farm-level, whether through agroecological approaches and/or mechanisation; 👉 Engaging and making connections with and between the processing, distribution and retail stages, making those processes efficient to ensure value addition at the country level. This study was undertaken with Hesat2030 - of which the Zero Hunger Pledge is a key partner.

"The private sector plays a major role in ending hunger because it's in the middle between communities and smallholder farmers. We are creating the market for the farmers, and adding value to the products people are putting on their table." 📺 We followed last week's insightful webinar on advancing nutrition in Africa by the Zero Hunger Coalition with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), the Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement, the Shamba Centre for Food & Climate and SDG2 Advocacy Hub, and we welcome the debate on the role of the private sector in fighting hunger and malnutrition. 🙌 #RoadToKampala 🗣️ Tendai G. from the SUN Movement encouraged the private sector to align with national agendas to end hunger and malnutrition, facilitate the safe movement of food, partner with governments, and contribute financially or through technical assistance to nutrition efforts. As she rightly pointed out, some businesses are already introducing great innovations. 💡 The Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge offers businesses a platform to leverage their innovative ideas to combat hunger in their communities by pledging to invest in this cause. This can be done through financial commitments or by providing training and technical skills to farmers and vulnerable groups in agriculture. We have already reached more than 50 companies from around the world who have joined the Pledge.
