✨Join us in celebrating Amelia Earhart Month! ✨ Last but not least, we spotlight 1948 Fellow Lucy Stefan. Lucy shared her story through a keynote address at the District 12 Conference in Canon City, CO, USA in October 2013. After being awarded the Amelia Earhart Fellowship in 1948, Lucy continued her studies in aeronautical engineering and became interested in the field of lighter-than-air. She made her first gas balloon flight in Philadelphia in 1954 using coal gas. Lucy then received her fixed-wing aircraft pilot's license in 1973 and continued ballooning for 50 years. Her most spectacular flights were in Switzerland flying over the Swiss Alps, landing twice in Germany and once in Italy. In 2009, Lucy was inducted into the U.S. Ballooning Hall of Fame by the Balloon Federation of America. Find out more about how our AE Fellows’ work impacts our daily lives on 16 January. 📢Zonta responds to wildfires in California Our thoughts are with our Zonta members, their families and communities impacted by the devastating wildfires in Southern California. Zonta International President Salla Tuominen has connected with District 9 Governor Gloria Salas and Area Director Britt Vaughan, confirming that all Zontians are safe, though some have evacuated their homes and are facing challenging conditions. We remain in solidarity with the affected communities as firefighters work tirelessly to contain the fires. Further updates from Zontians will be shared as they become available.
