These plastic items may get banned
India will outlaw the use of six single-use plastic products — bags, cups, plates, small bottles, straws and certain types of sachet, Reuters reports, citing unidentified government officials. The ban will cover manufacturing, usage and import of such items and is expected to shave up to 10% from India's annual plastic consumption of 14 million tonnes. An announcement is expected on October 2, but people will get a six-month window before penalties are enforced. E-commerce firms will also be asked to reduce plastic packaging, the news agency said.

Companies will start redesigning plastic when we as a consumer will ask for. Companies have to understand that what their consumer wants. In India, as an individual consumer we still not think about the plastic waste problem. We have to force the corporates to think about sustainable packaging and practices. The government may be banning or putting a charge to use polybags in supermarkets but as an individual, we must also ask the corporates to act responsibly.
