Where Generative AI Meets Healthcare: Updating The Healthcare AI Landscape It’s been a pleasure working on this report with Jon Wang and Ambar Bhattacharyya. After so many expert interviews, founder conversations, and internal discussions, we are thrilled to release our opinion on how generative AI impacts the healthcare AI startup landscape. “We are in the earliest innings of the world turning its attention to the abilities, potential, and complications of using LLMs on every task imaginable. In healthcare, while there are many issues to overcome, we believe LLMs have the potential to have transformational positive impacts for the lives of patients and providers.” We hope this report can help organize and start to make sense of this new evolving landscape. With everything moving so fast we expect a number of things you all will disagree with, and ultimately will turn out to be wrong! Let us know what you agree/disagree with - our hope is that we can all learn and grow together to improve the healthcare landscape. Full report in comments. Thanks to our teams GSR Ventures and Maverick Capital for all of your help. Unsurprisingly fantastic Justin ! I love the organizing framework. And the challenges you outline in the substack article. We must identify the right uses and continually ask ourselves what each stakeholder gains and loses when we apply AI to different tasks and problems.

AI is driving healthcare innovation — but can we really trust it to steer critical decisions? 🧠 From automating medical record summaries to assisting in diagnoses, AI is reducing the cognitive load on healthcare professionals and speeding up workflows. It promises better outcomes and efficiency, but here’s the catch: 💬 What happens if AI gets it wrong? Can AI truly replace human judgment in life-or-death situations? The potential is massive, but trust and accountability are key. Let’s explore how far we should let AI go in reshaping healthcare.

cc: Fadi Jawdat Hindi - let's add this to our ongoing discussions of AI in healthcare + ideate on how to bridge to non-clinical partners in communities that have established and trusted relationships with communities. Also adding KJ Hill as this might help him understand the landscape from the community perspective.
