Today marks the 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 ("IDB") and the theme for #IDB2024 is "𝐁𝐞 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧," urging all stakeholders to join forces in halting the decline of biodiversity. At MGI, we wholeheartedly support this initiative by actively developing innovative tools, fostering global collaborations, and contributing to life science initiatives. More than 4,000 species genomes have been sequenced on our DNBSEQ platform, a record showcasing our footprints in biodiversity conservation. Be a part of our dedication to conserving biodiversity—join us in taking action today! 🌿 UN Biodiversity #BePartOfThePlan #BiodiversityPlan #SustainableFuture #GenomeSequencing

On International Biodiversity Day, we want to highlight our work to support members to understand and integrate #biodiversity into their work. For example in England we are encouraging peer-to-peer learning about the impact of the new Biodiversity Net Gain requirements for planners. RTPI members are encouraged to share their experiences with us using our survey and to share case studies of best practice 👇 https://lnkd.in/eDcQX7uz In Northern Ireland we published 'Biodiversity in planning in post-Brexit Northern Ireland' focusing on the potential contribution of planning to biodiversity conservation and enhancement 👇 https://lnkd.in/eZdeXVRh If you want to learn more about what's happening in biodiversity in your region, click here 👇 https://lnkd.in/e4UCS5Mh #bng

🌿 How Urbanization Shapes Global Biodiversity 🌿 In the face of the global extinction crisis, cities have become crucial battlegrounds for biodiversity conservation. A recent paper in BioScience outlines a Research Agenda for Urban Biodiversity, identifying six key areas of focus. These include how urbanization impacts ecosystems, the role of cities as biodiversity refuges, and the urgent need for cross-disciplinary efforts. As urban areas expand into biodiversity hotspots, it’s clear that our policies must evolve to foster the coexistence of diverse ecosystems and human populations. This research offers a roadmap for sustainable urban development and effective conservation strategies. 🔗 Read the full paper here: Research Agenda for Urban Biodiversity in the Global Extinction Crisis #Biodiversity #Urbanization #Conservation #Sustainability #ResearchForChange

🔔 Discover How Innovative Bioacoustic Monitoring is Transforming Biodiversity Conservation! 🌿✨ Eduwin Hincapié Hincapié will present at the 3rd #WorldBiodiversityForum, highlighting the Cataruben Foundation's BioBits project. Traditional biodiversity monitoring methods miss key ecological diversity, but BioBits fills these gaps with participatory bioacoustic monitoring in Colombian ecosystems. Covering wetlands, savannas, Andean forests, and páramos, BioBits mitigates deforestation impacts, engages communities, and improves species identification. BioBits' scalable methods offer a globally replicable model for inclusive conservation #Conservation #BioacusticMonitoring

Biological Action Plan: Conservation Strategies from a Scientific Perspective The presence of diverse species and genetic variability is indispensable for the continuity of ecosystem services. However, #biodiversity is facing significant threats on a global scale. The Global Species Action Plan (GSAP), developed by the International Union For Conservation Of Nature (IUCN), is designed to address these threats with a #scientific approach. This plan offers a comprehensive action strategy aimed at preserving biodiversity and ensuring the sustainable management of threatened species. GSAP proposes a series of strategic interventions, particularly focusing on species conservation and sustainable management. These interventions include critical measures such as the protection of endangered species, habitat restoration, and the maintenance of #ecological connectivity. The plan also advocates for strengthening legal frameworks and involving local communities to ensure the sustainable use of biodiversity. Conserving biodiversity is crucial not only for the healthy functioning of ecosystems but also for addressing global challenges such as #climate change and #PublicHealth. The science-based strategies offered by GSAP are poised to make a significant contribution to biodiversity conservation efforts. In this context, the effective implementation of GSAP represents a key step toward protecting biodiversity and building a sustainable future. #Biodiversity #Conservation #GSAP #IUCN #Science — Hi, I'm Damla 👋🏻 I am talking about BioRevolution & Biotech Trends in 2034 on LinkedIn If what I say excites you, follow me and subscribe to my newsletter, BioRevolution : https://lnkd.in/d3VRhTG3

From 7 October, hundreds of rangers from all over the world will meet in Hyères, France, for the #WorldRangerCongress to exchange expertise, meet old contacts, make new ones and, last but not least, to find mental support in the increasingly complex field of ranger work. The Post2020 Biodiversity Framework - EU support considers this to be a congress of high international significance for the global biodiversity and nature conservation strategy. Post2020 empowers decision-makers and stakeholders worldwide to implement the Global Biodiversity Framework. In its report on the upcoming WRC, it recognises that rangers are key to the core objectives of this strategy, in particular the 30x30 target of protecting 30 percent of the world's land and oceans by 2030. Find out what the international network thinks of this congress organised by the International Ranger Federation and Gardes Nature de France and what the organisers themselves have to say about it. #30x30 #rangers #naturesprotectors #standwithrangers

🌍 Advancing Biodiversity and Ecosystem Restoration in Portugal The EU’s 2030 Biodiversity Strategy for 2030 has set ambitious targets to reverse biodiversity decline, calling for 30% land and sea protection across Member States. However, Portugal faces a unique challenge, with over 85% of its forests privately owned and less than 1% under strict protection. To tackle this, a multi-sectoral approach is vital. We’re working with government, academia, and the private sector to enhance public sector skills, boost funding for conservation, and drive policy innovation. 🎥 Watch the #NaturaConnect Portugal Case Study video to learn more about how we’re overcoming these challenges and making biodiversity protection a reality #HorizonEU
