This 160 number is terrifying: We've all been calling for less and better regulation, for #BetterRegulation, to remove the burdensome #CostOfEurope that is holding us back. 1. The #DraghiReport called for less #regulation to help #competitiveness 2. #MemberStates called for a pause. 3. The #EuropeanParliament has stated they don't simply want more for the sake of it. 4. All industry sectors have called for a clear #RegulatoryReview to assess #Commission staff and #Commissioner candidates have said we need to review the approach. 5. Our markets are in need of investment, not higher #compliance 6. National #regulators are over stretched and don't have the resources, have called for a pause to new legislation and even new powers. The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) has published its white paper titled ‘Smarter regulation: delivering a regulatory environment for innovation, investment and growth’. It suggests reforms including defining ‘regulators of business’, developing a ‘register of regulators’ to create a one-stop-shop of regulatory information, and launching a new Regulators Council. Recommendations may be lost post election, but irrespective, the regulators and regulated that would be impacted, should consider the contents and whether it would answer the concerns raised over the functioning of the landscape of regulators. #regulatorylaw #regulation #policy
