AI can be the greatest equalizer or greatest divider depending on how we address that as a society. By default AI will lead to exclusion and accelerate the pace of the digital divide. We need to be intentional about including people and not leave anyone out of this revolution. To create truly inclusive AI, we need diverse voices involved in development. I encourage everyone, especially those from underrepresented groups, to explore opportunities in AI and data science. Together we can shape technologies that benefit all communities equitably. A recent Tribal College Journal article highlights this critical need, discussing both the potential and risks of AI for Indian Country: • AI could greatly benefit tribal communities in healthcare, education, language preservation, and cultural knowledge retention • However, current AI systems often exhibit bias and inadequately represent Indigenous perspectives • Tribal colleges and Indigenous researchers are leading efforts to develop AI applications aligned with tribal values and priorities • Ethical guidelines for Indigenous AI stress community engagement, data sovereignty, and respect for traditional knowledge The article underscores the importance of diverse participation in AI development to ensure these technologies serve all communities fairly and ethically. Your post is right on the mark in that transformation of the Public Sector lies in the transformation to a more product-based approach. While "projects" are focused on scope, "products" are focused on the delivery of value to customers and users. There is a great opportunity for the Public Sector to transform by focusing on the delivery of value to customers and users - whether they are citizens or other public sector workers who are responsible for delivering value to citizens. Products require a different tool for financial stewartship than strictly budget adherence. Product efficiencies and financial success are measured via the profit & loss (P&L) statement (or maybe surplus deficit statement in public sector). The P&L is a much better measure of financial value delivery that budget adherence. Budget adherence is part of the "project" mindset leveraging the iron triangle - on time, on budget and within scope. However, on time, on budget and within scope does not provide any accountability for value delivery. Value delivery is outcomes-based. Therefore, the transformation needs to start with a look at funding mechanisms that drive accountability for value delivery vs. strictly budget adherence. Thanks for sharing! Paul N. CIO's focus on meeting IT sustainability metrics. What they are and how SustainableIT.org is defining EA and Responsible AI Principles that Enterprise Architects can leverage A huge thank you to Rick Pastore (Research Principal) from SustainableIT.org who joined folks tied to IASA CAF’s Boston Chapter, as well as other architects, interested in potentially joining the IASA CAF Sustainable Work Group being stood up in October. Rick gave an overview on CIO’s focus on meeting IT sustainability metrics. He reviewed the work his organization has done on IT Standards for Environmental, Social, Governance and Sustainability as well as highlighted work on EA and Responsible AI principles. Thank you to everyone who participated. We had insightful discussions on the implications of Responsible AI in decarbonization efforts and the crucial role of Enterprise Architecture at the CxO level in fostering sustainable solutions. We also explored the importance of ensuring AI is deployed ethically, with a focus on aligning usage with key business values such as equity, inclusion, transparency, and safety. A personal thank you to the IASA CAF members who joined this rich conversation on the state of sustainability and Responsible AI in the IT industry. Join me at the Data Governance & Information Quality (DGIQ) East + AI Governance Conference in Washington, DC, from December 9-13, 2024. On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, I will lead the panel discussion on "Ethical use of Data in AI Applications." This panel is based on my chapter of the same name in my latest book, Essential Topics in Artificial Intelligence [https://lnkd.in/eW-XzYyP]. AI, in particular machine learning, has been positioned as an important element in contributing to as well as providing decisions in a multitude of industries. The use of machine learning in delivering decisions is based on the data that is used to train the machine learning algorithms. It is imperative that when machine learning applications are being considered the data being used to train the machine learning algorithms is without bias, and the data is ethically used. This panel focuses on the ethical use of data in developing machine learning algorithms.
