Line of Balance (LOB) in project control. Some guides consider the LOB a scheduling method but I don't really see it that way. I consider it more like an assisting tool. You have "time" on "x" asis. And the "scope" (floor, stage, LM, etc) on the "y" axis. The "slope" of the line represents the productivity. The good thing about LOB is that you can see the: - Start Date - Finish Date - Productivity Rate - All of the above for all activities too in the same layout. You can review the interactions and dynamics of all activities at the same time. The LOB also helps you determine if the productivity rate is so high or so low. For example, in the below image, the yellow line has a steeper slope (higher productivity). Although this might be perceived as something good in the construction environment, it is not in this case. If the Contractor continues with this high productivity, it will clash with the predecessors and cause an interruption which is not a good practice. Instead, you might want to delay the start of the activity to ensure a smooth workflow and avoid idle time.

State and Federal construction building projects, please stop wasting my tax dollars by not requiring BIM Coordination or providing any sort of BIM Coordination Specifications on mid to large projects. Yes, this project needs BIM. At over 130k SF, more content then the images show, and congestion like this throughout, there is great risk of delays and claims due to the number of changes that will be required. But without the specifications and clear requirements, not everyone will even include BIM coordination. For those contractors who want so utilize BIM, with no BIM Spec provided, most will receive lack luster results in the end due to the chasing to the bottom, low-cost approach. And unfortunately with these kinds projects, BIM receives a bad representation...I wonder why. I have seen countless project like this and I hear too many of them not going well for the contractors and owners involved. I feel for these contractors and all those from the management to the field. It doesn't have to be this way! If you have the ability to stop this, there are solutions. One option is we provide a BIM Commissioning service to owners, owner representatives, and design build or GC/CM contractors. VADA: This 200,000 ft. building has an Area 3 uplift value of -34.1. VADA specified a perimeter that passed 120 PSF, WITHOUT a vent in the assembly. A TRUE test, not a gimmick.... The Area 1 uplift value is -19.1 PSF. VADA specified a field that passed 135 PSF, WITH a vent, because VADA Area 1's are vented. VADA spec for this building is 3.5 X Safety for Area 3 And, 7 X Safety factor for Area 1. VADA's success is by Design. No wonder VADA has NEVER had a roof damaged by wind! Visualization is an essential tool in a construction project's toolkit. You must make your visualization as realistic as possible to gain maximum benefit. Athletes have been successfully using visualization for years in their training. A quarterback may visualize the perfect pass, or a baseball player the ideal process for hitting a curveball. VDC Coordination harnesses the power of visualization to paint a picture of what success will look like in the future and inspire the Field Operations Team to join them in the journey. Visualization can be as simple as drawings of plans, elevations, sections, and details or as detailed as a coordinated LOD 400 model with the construction sequencing you must take to achieve success. It can be as brief as a few minutes or as long as necessary to complete the virtual picture of your goal. During VDC Coordination and Modeler Meetings are the best visualization times because we tend to be in model mode. Visualization allows you to envision how you will successfully navigate project challenges and opportunities. It can also help you imagine how you will inspire your team members to achieve their goals. This image depicts a very successful VDC Coordination effort where the trades planned their work and worked their plan. The solid 3D objects are a coordinated VDC Model, and the 3D points are the point cloud of the recorded completed work. Sometimes Division 6, 11 and 12 trades are the last to be awarded, long after BIM coordination meetings have begun and already drawn a lot of conclusions without your input. The outcome is not great when the space needed for overhead lab equipment or millwork features is expressed too late. Sometimes you get lucky, or you have excellent carpenters who know how to trapeze around obstacles inventively. Isolated ceiling service panels like this one are expensive. I recommend either producing a rigid frame around the CSP for attachments or using a unitized box construction like this one for stiffness.

Most contractors get one shot at owning a business. And that fear of failure causes the failure they fear. So they take no risk; they try to figure it out themselves. They don't delegate to minimize mistakes. They don't borrow or invest to keep expenses to a minimum. There is a time and place, but if it persists, it stops growth and bitterly chokes the company. There are thousands of tasks, and the owner runs out of time and becomes master of none. All work is being done at 80% while trying to represent a fantastic company. Pride in industry...but louder. In my opinion, this is how we start to make a tangible difference in the future of the construction workforce. This is an industry of grit. Every day, all day. Whatever it takes to get the job done. Ownership of the final product, no matter what your level of involvement was. Pride in what you do. How do we grow our construction workforce? Talk about it. Brag about it. Post about it. Add all the hashtags. The next generation is immersed in social media. It turns out you're on here, too. Digging a trench? Post it. Pouring a foundation? Snap it. Working in a quarry? Tag it. Drywalling a house? Share it. (Obviously, get permission first if it's not your job site.) That's my mind-blowing advice. Do you want to be a part of the revolution? Share your pride in the industry.

Outer Dome Structure: Estimated cost: $122.75 million to $207.75 million. This includes the dome’s retractable design, transparency features (50% transparent), and climate control systems. 2. Interior Development: Remaining budget after dome construction: $13.8 billion to $13.9 billion. This includes: Residential and Commercial Buildings (up to 200 meters tall inside). Infrastructure (roads, utilities, green spaces, etc.). Luxury Features: High-end design, gold-infused concrete for value retention and aesthetic. Power Grid (including Solar Roll integration, renewable energy systems). 3. Power Generation and Grid: Investment in solar energy systems (Solar Roll) and other renewable energy solutions. This grid will not only power DomeCity but could also sell energy to nearby cities. 4. Waste Management: Waste will be processed outside DomeCity for environmental efficiency, with investments in sustainable waste plants. 5. Labor and Social Programs: Programs for transforming homeless individuals into the labor force. No homelessness within DomeCity. The remaining funds in the budget will likely cover additional amenities, technological innovations, smart city infrastructure, and potential unforeseen costs.
