See: https://lnkd.in/gUktYDhv from 2022 I think MZ got a lot right in what he said, especially the insight that there is no one size or style that fits all faces. Any company wanting to play in this space has to get good at the art of selling eye glasses, and making everything very modular. And of course there is a minimalist and maximalist path for XR, as we've discussed before. But I think where he goes wrong is in underestimating people's desire to own their own mobile compute (in their pocket or purse or VPN-like tunneled back to their home) vs. getting all their compute and storage subsidized from his cloud. It's not just about latency, but about privacy and control. Meta can take the lead on smart glasses, but someone else still owns the mobile (and likely also edge) compute frameworks that will be part of the all-day mobile XR+AI system. And as soon as people have some choices, we may see hard limits on how much of our personal data Meta can collect and flow back to their cloud.

The discussion also touches on the potential for various robot form factors, each designed to excel at particular skills. Picture a tennis-playing robot that comes pre-trained with basic volleying instructions, but requires a "Skills Upgrade" to perform at a master level. This raises questions about the need to manufacture and train a diverse range of robot body types and sizes, mirroring how humans possess ideal physiological characteristics for different activities. Luma AI recently launched #DreamMachine a competitor of OpenAI's #Sora which was announced a while back but yet to be launched. I tried the model and generated 2 videos. Given my interest in Indian Itihasas 1st prompt was - "Lord Hanuman and Lord Ganesh playing football with vanarasena as their teams" It generated a 5sec video, and I didn't find the output to be good. Then being a superhero fan the 2nd prompt was - "Superman and batman playing cricket with batman batting and Superman bowling" It generated a 5sec video, and I didn't find the output to be good but was better than the 1 video. I think the bar is set so high that we expect the world at our fingertips. Must say great to see the pace of innovation! On the technical side, from the article, this is astounding. Who would have thought even 10 years ago GPUs would be utilized in this manner. “Powered by 24 NVIDIA GPUs, Carbon Robotics’ vehicles use deep-learning-based computer vision models to autonomously identify and eliminate weeds via CO2 lasers. LaserWeeder, as the product is called, processes 4.7 million high-resolution images per hour, zapping 5,000 weeds per minute, according to the company.
