Seargin is a dynamic multinational tech company operating in 50 countries. At Seargin, we drive innovation and create projects that shape the future and greatly enhance the quality of life. You will find our solutions in the space industry, supporting scientists in the development of cancer drugs, and implementing innovative technological solutions for industrial clients worldwide. These are just some of the areas in which we operate.

Currently, for the new Seargin project, we are looking for a Bioinformatician with R/Python.

Form: B2B contract

Location: Poland/Spain

Project

The goal of the project is to bring insights from genetics and functional genomics to therapeutic area scientists. As part of this, we create methods and build pipelines for harmonizing, integrating, and visualizing wide ranges of experimental data (human genetics, transcriptomics, knockouts, screening, etc). We enable exploration via a custom portal by which scientists can interactively explore the insights these results provide. As technology and experimental capabilities expand, our need for methods and infrastructure continues to grow. This role will help integrate the next generation of scientific insights. 80% of coding, 20% of meetings.

Tasks scope

Scientific pipeline development (Technologies used: R/Python + nextflow + docker / singularity, HPC)

  • Various scenarios: either designing the algorithm from scratch (in tight collaboration with stakeholders) or taking stakeholder's algorithm and productionalizing it (i.e. turning it from a rough script/draft to a robust, tested, performant pipeline)
  • R/Python package development
  • Code review for other team members
  • Data integration pipelines - i.e. a stakeholder requests a report that would answer a specific set of questions based on data already present in the project and third party databases - our tasks here involve data extraction from databases, transformation, and rendering of an HTML report
  • Maintaining CI/CD
  • Facilitating meetings (occasionally - cross-team, internal or stakeholder meetings)
  • Gathering and refining requirements from stakeholders and other teams

Qualification

4+ years of professional experience in R or Python development

  • Experience with communication across teams with different backgrounds (e.g. tech - non-tech, backend - frontend)
  • Python / R package development
  • Good knowledge of: bash, linux
  • Experience with git and git workflows
  • Test Driven Development, good coding practices
  • CI/CD tools (gitlab CI/CD, Jenkins)
  • Containerization (docker)
  • Relational databases (PostgreSQL)
  • Experience in collaborative coding (working concurrently with other team members on the same codebase, code review & feedback system)
  • Communication skills

Nice to have

  • Nextflow
  • Genomics-related analyses or other biological data analysis
  • Biological (or related) educational background
  • Working in an Agile team (we are using kanban)
  • Cloud solutions (AWS)
  • Apache Spark
  • HPC
  • Non-relational databases
