Deputy Vice President, Learning & Impact

Summary

UnidosUS is seeking a Deputy Vice President, Learning & Impact to lead a new unit charged with the development and implementation of a comprehensive learning and impact measurement strategy, aligned with UnidosUS’s newly identified strategic vision.

UnidosUS recently completed an organization-wide strategic planning process that affirmed not only our commitment to fighting for civil rights, social justice, and economic and social opportunity in this nation, but also our important role in closing critical inequities for Latino populations facing multiple barriers to opportunity. As a result, UnidosUS will seek to achieve its new strategic vision by:

  • Changing systems – driving shifts in policy, practice, and resources – to close economic and social inequities for Latinos.
  • Building the power of Latinos to influence and hold these systems accountable, by ensuring Latino perspectives and leadership in influential decision-making.

To enable UnidosUS to implement this strategic vision successfully and effectively, we will make a series of investments, including developing a strategy and vision for tracking, measuring, and learning from the impact of our work.

A new role within the organization, the Deputy Vice President will lead these efforts, as well as develop an organizational approach to monitoring and evaluation of data that allows the board, leadership, and stakeholders to fully grasp UnidosUS’s far-reaching impact on Latino communities.

The Deputy Vice President, Learning & Impact will report to the Senior Vice President, Programs and will be expected to operate with an intentional cross-team and -issue framework requiring extensive collaboration with UnidosUS Leadership.

This position is hybrid, and will be based in Washington, DC or New York, NY.

Salary: $175,000 - $200,000 (salary differentials may apply outside of the Washington DC area.)

Essential Functions

Learning & Impact Measurement Strategy

  • In collaboration with the Senior Vice President, Programs, lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive learning and impact measurement strategy, aligned with UnidosUS’s newly identified strategic vision.
  • Create frameworks, both at the program and organization level, for the learning and impact measurement of activities across our four core issues areas – Economic Empowerment, Education, Health, and Workforce Development – in addition to Immigration and Civic Engagement.
  • Initially with each Programs component, work to embed impact measurement into their work, including the development of goals and performance measures that align with the organizational strategic vision and recommendations for how to track and assess them.
  • Foster a collaborative learning culture with room for discourse and reflection on what is and isn't working.
  • Remain informed of learning and impact trends and emerging approaches and apply them to the organization's practices where appropriate.
  • Cultivate a network of leading experts – internally and externally – that can expand UnidosUS's ability to support learning and deliver impact on a systems level.

Knowledge Management & Sharing

  • In close collaboration with the Principal for Digital Services, develop and refine the systems, processes, and tools to manage the facilitation, collection, and sharing of knowledge and data that is generated across all core issues areas.
  • Develop and refine internal systems and processes to better enable shared learning, reflection, strategy improvement, and knowledge management.
  • Review and determine the impact of programs, services, and activities, and use the resultant information to determine intended impact achieved and opportunities for expanded impact.
  • Work collaboratively with the heads of the Education, Health, Housing & Financial Empowerment, Workforce Development, Economic Initiatives, and Affiliate Engagement teams, to integrate cross program activities and functions.
  • Analyze, synthesize, and produce key insights and reporting for UnidosUS leadership, staff, and key external stakeholders.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Vice President, Programs, and Senior Vice President, Advancement & External Affairs, develop a mechanism to share organizational learning and impact with a variety of key stakeholders, including but not limited to the UnidosUS Board of Directors, UnidosUS Affiliates, UnidosUS Corporate Board of Advisors, funders, and government officials.
  • Contribute to thought leadership content, publications, and research that elevate UnidosUS's profile and influence the broader field.

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead and manage a new Learning & Impact unit, providing supervision and coaching to direct reports and setting strategic directions.
  • Partner with the heads of the Education, Health, Housing & Financial Empowerment, Workforce Development, Economic Initiatives, and Affiliate Engagement teams to ensure that program data is collected accurately, routinely, and updated by relevant staff.
  • Provide training and technical assistance for Programs staff on systems for learning and impact and support implementation of any relevant standard operating procedures.
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with external evaluators and research institutions.
  • Cultivate an organization-wide culture of learning and impact.
  • Work with UnidosUS Leadership to develop an inventory of the various evaluators currently in use at UnidosUS for centralizing information.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, community development, public policy, evaluation, or related field.
  • Minimum of Ten (10) years of relevant experience in strategy/program development, impact measurement, and/or evaluation.
  • Minimum of Five (5) years of relevant experience leading a learning and impact measurement or similar unit.
  • Significant experience and demonstrated success in supervising, leading, and motivating teams and setting and achieving goals, holding staff and oneself accountable, and providing constructive feedback and coaching.
  • Significant experience data analysis and in diverse set of qualitative and quantitative evaluation methods and tools.
  • Familiarity with applying evaluation/theoretical frameworks, such as community impact and systems change frameworks.
  • Significant experience working with learning and impact measurement tools, such as theories of change, indicators, metrics, etc. across a variety of disciplines.
  • Experience supporting the use and translation of impact data and learnings in external communications for a variety of audiences.
  • Experience working with CRMs, such as Quickbase or Salesforce.
  • Experience working with statistical analysis software, such as SPSS, SAS, or R.
  • Familiarity with Alchemer, SurveyMonkey, Qualtrics, or other electronic survey platform.
  • Awareness of and demonstrated commitment to addressing issues of equity that impact Latinos, including issues of power and identity, social structures, wealth building, and career advancement.
  • Experience working with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Latino civil rights issues and awareness of the policies that impact Latinos and their families.

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in social sciences, community development, public policy, evaluation, or related field.
  • Experience working in a community-based organization or national nonprofit intermediary.
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Latino community and Latino nonprofit organizations.
  • Fluency in both written and verbal English and Spanish.
