Climb4Climate

Executive Director

Climb4Climate United States

Climate change is the existential crisis of our time. Millions of us want to be a part of the solution but don’t know how to take the first step. Climb 4 Climate’s mission is to have a measurable global impact in the fight against climate change by creating a series of stadium stair climb challenges wherein the participants raise money to heal our planet Earth. The attitude is fun and collaborative, the vibes are upbeat, and the action is felt by all who get involved. Within five years, we will grow to dozens of cities in North America, tens of thousands of participants, hundreds of millions of dollars raised, and billions of tons of carbon removed from our planet.

The Executive Director of C4C is the organization's leader and reports to the Board of Directors. The ED hires and leads the staff to meet and exceed our goals and strategic objectives. Every day, you’ll work to maximize the growth and health of the organization so that C4C has a meaningful, global impact. Ensuring that our actions are mission-aligned, ensuring the long-term sustainability of C4C, and keeping the entire organization strategically focused are your top responsibilities.

You will divide your time between management, fundraising, partnership development, recruiting, and partnership building. We are a young organization. Most of what you’re doing is building and not simply operating. If that excites you, then this role is for you. Successful candidates will have led a mission-driven organization that has run athletic fundraisers before.

Our team at Climb 4 Climate is passionate about stemming the climate crisis. You will help us grow C4C from our first event. After this successful launch, we will move directly into scaling rapidly into more cities. You will work closely with the Vice President of Development to secure and manage event sponsors and donors for core operations. The V.P. of Development will report to you. You will also work with our COO to ensure that events are executed to the highest quality, sponsor dollars to offset costs and maximize participation so that our impact on the climate crisis is significant. This is our north star.  This job will require some around-the-clock event lifestyle weeks leading up to the events and more normal weeks when we’re not actively running events.

With exceptional leadership and proper funding, Climb 4 Climate will have a global impact. We have a high-performance, collaborative team. C4C is run more like a Silicon Valley startup than a non-profit, cause-based organization. We truly live our mission. Planet Earth can’t wait.

Responsibilities and Experience:

  • Successful candidates will likely have previously served as a non-profit organization's leader, helping set strategy, securing donations, and setting the direction of the organization in service of the mission.
  • Work closely with the COO to build a replicable event model that can be deployed to dozens of cities by 2027.
  • Tapping your network of donors to secure additional funding for the organization.
  • Event success - as measured by funds raised, NPS, and carbon impact. C4C should only run events that can run exceptionally well.
  • Work with our VP of Development on sponsorship fundraising and event sponsor activations.
  • Messaging, communication, and being the mouthpiece of the C4C movement.
  • Participate in budgeting conversations and planning led by the COO and in cooperation with finance staff and the Board.
  • Communicate with our board of advisors to maximize their impact on the C4C mission. Successful candidates have reported to a board of directors before and are familiar with the thorough communications members expect and appropriate strategies for getting the most out of board members.
  • Teammate management and oversight - C4C seeks a results-oriented leader passionate about the climate crisis and inspires others with candor, output, and clear communication.
  • Building an event playbook, in cooperation with the COO, allows C4C to scale efficiently into new geographies. Our rapid growth will be made on repeatable systems to execute climbs.
  • Expansion into new cities and venues responsibly, deliberately, and steadily.
  • Establishing relationships with stadium staff, owners, and operators.
  • Work with the board of C4C, keep them informed and accountable, and partner with them to execute our strategic plan and vision.
  • Lead our growth: By Q3 of next year, we will produce an event each quarter and aim to accelerate to 6 then 12 per year over the following 12 months. There likely won’t be a time in the next five years when we’re uninterested in getting connected to potential stadium or event sponsors who can provide sponsorship or free or discounted stadium rental fees.

Benefits:

Benefits include but are not limited to, a $150/month WiFi stipend to cover all communication costs. $500/year for home office needs. Benefits package that could be opted into for health coverage (this is not set up currently, but you’ll be included as an employee count as we look to add our health benefits at Climb 4 Climate).

Paid Time Off:

We have unlimited PTO, with a 2-week advance needed for all planned days out of the office. The major holidays are considered days off from your duties at Climb 4 Climate. If the list of holidays below does not cover your needs and you have personal or religious suggestions for added holidays, please let us know before signing onto this role.
