Position Details

Position Overview

The IT Intern will provide entry-level support on various IT projects and end-user issues. This position requires technical acumen, hard work, dedication, and motivation to learn. Work is performed under the general direction of the IT Director and oversight by the CIO. This is a fantastic opportunity to jump-start an entry-level person’s career in IT by offering them an opportunity to work in the IT department of a mid-sized company. They will benefit from:

  • Providing customer support for level 1 and level 2 desktop issues
  • Shadowing other technicians and engineers as they build and solve solutions and systems
  • Gaining insight from IT professionals regarding real-world experience and viewpoint on the future of IT careers

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist with the implementation and completion of various IT projects, both individual and group projects.
  • Assist with on-site and remote end-user support, including desktops, laptops, printers, VoIP phones, smart phones (iPhone and Android), tablets (MS Surface and iPad), peripheral hardware, and software applications.
  • Assist with installation, configuration, and maintenance of end-user devices and software.
  • Maintain availability, integrity and confidentiality of data and network security.
  • Maintain problem/maintenance history in ticketing system; perform data analysis to proactively identify improvement opportunities.
  • Document and update technical documentation, procedures, and diagrams as required.
  • Generate reports as required.
  • Establish and maintain contact with vendors and partners for support and problem resolution.
  • Conduct research on potential products in support of IT infrastructure. Evaluate and recommend products for purchase.
  • Opportunity to gain experience with: network infrastructure, cloud infrastructure, various Microsoft and 3rd party applications, data, security, and software development.
  • Provide administrative support to the IT team as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 0-2 years’ experience in an IT function/supporting role.
  • Basic understanding of network, server, VoIP, and smart phone technologies.
  • Ability to understand, follow, and create basic written technical documentation, procedures, and diagrams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to demonstrate customer service, strategic thinking, diligence, dependability, teamwork, individual work, organizational skills, conflict resolution, learnability, and ability to teach others.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be resourceful and take initiative even when given minimal direction.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks.

Desired Skills

  • Interest in Information Technology (Networking, Servers, Security, etc.)
  • Previous experience in an office setting is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of IT principles and practices.

Educations/Certifications

  • High School Graduate or GED.
  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Engineering, Data or Business-related field.

  • Adheres to always wearing the proper PPE/Safety equipment.
  • Understands and complies with all written safety, health, and environmental procedures.
  • Attends all required scheduled Health, Safety and Environmental training sessions.
  • Participates in required Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives and programs.
  • Perform required administrative functions related to Health, Safety and Environmental functions such as completing forms, checklists, and log sheets.

  • Physical Demands: Employee is required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; balance; stoop; bend; kneel and climb. The employee must have the ability to frequently lift/move up to 15 pounds.
  • Work Environment: This position requires one to work both in an office environment and a manufacturing facility. There is a moderate level of noise, heat, cold, dust, dirt and fumes in the manufacturing setting. Employee may be exposed to varying temperatures.
