Job Type Full-time Description Summary: Patient Access Lead provides leadership and guidance to the staff on a daily basis at MDIH. In this role they would be responsible for the daily supervision of departmental staff and operation of the various patient access functions at MDIH which include Registration, Receptionist/Switchboard, Insurance Verification, and Point of Service Collections. This position also acts as a vital member of the Revenue Cycle Team and Patient Access Team and serves as a subject matter expect. This position requires expertise in the areas of staff training and education, improving customer service skills of staff, patient and department complaint resolution and efficient departmental operations. A high degree of accuracy and quality output from staff is expected from the lead of this position. This position is not a remote position. You must be on-site. Requirements Major Responsibility Areas for this position (All are Essential Functions): #1- Responsible for coordinating daily activities of departmental staff and operation of the various patient access functions at MDIH to include a high degree of accuracy and quality, registration, receptionist area and staff, Insurance Verification, Point of Service Collections. Create the weekly work schedule and approve payroll timecards. Measurement: Ensure data collection of key patient census is accurately obtained from patient or other sources consistently (i.e.-employer, SS#, valid ID, Insurance payer information etc.). Utilize the CPSI Census reports, MSP reports, and CPSI census registration quality/follow up report; report findings to Revenue Cycle Operations Manager. Work schedule is created and updated on time. #2
- Obtain comprehensive personal, financial, and other pertinent information that will ensure the quality of the patient account at the time of registration. Consistently verify each patient's insurance coverage through Passport technologies or other integrated system. When applicable, ensure pre-certification/authorization/referrals for certain services are obtained and coordinated with any other department/physician office/provider and/or hospital. Accurately input data to PAS and obtain all required documents for each patient event. Reviews at face-to-face encounter with patient privacy policies, patient bill of rights and obtains appropriate signatures on Consents and other registration documents. Measurement: Demographic quality/edit reports from CPSI and other systems will be used to assess the Registration Clerk's accuracy. A 97% accuracy rate is the targeted goal. Number of denials for authorizations/pre-certifications/referrals and appeals will be measured and assessed. #3
- Perform receptionist and clerical functions in a timely and accurate manner. Answers, transfers calls and makes announcements as directed in accordance with established guidelines from MDIH policies and procedures. Maintains and inputs monthly hospital On Call Lists. Overhead page codes in accordance with established guidelines. Maintains accurate patient room lists and distributes appropriately to registration staff and nursing supervisor. Manages patient flow into registration areas and assists all visitors in courteous helpful manner. Measurement: An assessment will be conducted by the department manager monthly and quarterly for each staff member regarding their ability and knowledge. #4
- Perform Staff training to insure high level of output and accuracy along with outstanding Customer Service. Ensures staff is properly cross-trained and adequate coverage exists. Measurement: Provide training and use results to determine if staff retained information or was able to implement new information into operations.. #5
- Perform various other tasks as directed by management. Measurement: Successfully meeting timelines and executing task effectively.
