The Quality Assurance department is critical to the success of Murray’s Cheese. Its multidisciplinary nature ensures the safety and quality of all products distributed through the Long Island City warehouse. He/She/They facilitate our food safety and quality programs by assisting with a wide array of responsibilities that include document review, auditing, recordkeeping, product testing, and employee training. The Quality Assurance Technician works independently but assists the Associate Director when necessary.

What You Do
GMP/Food Safety programs & SOPs: Performs routine GMP floor walks and assists in SOP review. Reviews supplier compliance documents in our portal. Conducts periodic walk-throughs of the NYC retail locations (Bleecker, Grand Central, Jackson Park) and catering kitchen.
Environmental and Product Testing: Performs routine swabbing of the facility according to our Environmental Monitoring Plan. Prepares samples for 3rd party laboratory microbial analysis. Assists with collection of cheese data in our in-house laboratory (pH, moisture, water activity).
Records: Collects and maintains documents (traceability, corrective actions, calibrations, cleaning logs, pest control service reports, etc.)
Serves as backup PCQI: Assists with annual food safety training of warehouse and production staff. Assists with annual 3rd party food safety audit, including all preparation. Acquires and maintains PCQI status, and certification in HACCP and FSVP.
Communication: Works amicably with and motivates colleagues to work within the company’s food safety and quality parameters. Informs QA leadership when there are any safety or quality concerns.
Assists with quality assessments and tastings.
Participates in ongoing education to update job knowledge.
Other tasks as assigned.
What We Need From You
College degree in a science-related field (food science or microbiology a plus) preferred but not required
1-3 years of experience in addition to, or in lieu of, a college degree
Great attention to detail
Ability to work independently
Strong organizational and communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office
NYC Food Handler’s Certification, ServSafe, or HACCP Certification: not required, but a plus
