Job Description

Senior Research Assistant, Integrated Genomics Operation (IGO)

Exciting Opportunity at MSK: The Integrated Genomics Operation (IGO) enables basic, clinical and translational research projects across the Cancer Center. Ultimately, the focus of our work is to help establish the basis of cancer pathogenesis, diagnostics and treatment at MSKCC. At the IGO, we implement the MSK mission to cure cancer by providing a broad range of genomic services and expertise to our world-class research scientists. We are a high throughput core facility producing >100TB of data per year across >40 applications including “fourth generation” genomics technologies such as single cell and spatial transcriptomics.

Role Overview:

  • Maintain and operate short read (illumine, Element) and long read (Oxford Nanopore) sequencers
  • Assist the sequencing team group leader manage technical staff, plan sequencing runs and evaluate completed runs
  • Manage all sequencing reagents inventory in collaboration with IGO laboratory management team
  • Work with your team to create workflows following LEAN principles
  • Communicate with scientists, vendor technical support and sales representatives
  • Learn to operate liquid handlers and robotic instruments for high throughput processing
  • Maintain and coordinate documentation on the IGO Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
  • Oversee the QA/QC and pooling processes for sequencing libraries
  • Interact with the IGO data team to ensure proper networking and adequate data transfer to the High Performance Cluster
  • Work with other groups in IGO to ensure smooth processing and transition from one team to the next

Key Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor or Master’s Degree in biology, chemistry or related field with at least 5 years of relevant full-time experience
  • Previous molecular biology experience – genomics experience is welcome

Additional Information:

  • Location: MSK’s Main Campus 1275 York Ave, in NYC.
  • Schedule: M-F 9am-5 pm
  • We are open to considering candidates available for relocation to NYC this summer.

Pay Range: $73,900.00-$114,400.00
