The Office of Student Employment provides a variety of on-campus and off-campus paid employment opportunities for New York Institute of Technology students. These opportunities foster and promote career, personal, and professional development, and aid in the ability to enhance the necessary skills needed for success after graduation. Students have the ability to apply learned skills and theories in a practical setting while earning income to assist with college expenses.

The Office Of Student Employment Strives To:

  • Support the recruitment and retention goals of New York Tech.
  • Assist students seeking part-time employment that will complement and support their academic experience.
  • Provide training for career and professional development.
  • Expose students to experiences that foster lifelong learning and job development.
  • Assist students in financing their education.

  • Deliver administrative and technical support to employers and the New York Tech community.

Responsibilities

The Student Employment Coordinator will provide essential support to the Associate Director of Student Employment at New York Tech. This role involves assisting in the administration of the Office of Student Employment, paperwork processing, which encompasses recruitment, training, policy management, program development, and community partnerships. This position will be primarily located on the Long Island Campus, with support on the New York City campus as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Student Employment Program Administration: Assist in the day-to-day operations of the Student Employment Program to include;
    • Troubleshoot questions/issues with the online student timesheet system
    • Monitor the Office of Student Employment central email
    • Administer and review for accuracy, new hire paperwork
    • Assist with marketing and communication of employment opportunities
    • Maintain student employment Handbook and website to ensure that information remains current, consistent, and compliant with federal and institutional regulations
    • Serve as the main point of contact for assisting supervisors
  • Recruitment: Support the recruitment of on-campus student aid and Federal Work Study (FWS) positions, off-campus FWS community service positions, and student applicants.
  • Training: Provide training to students and supervisors on hiring and timesheet processes, best practices for students and supervisors, and professional development workshops.
  • Policy Management: Administer policies and procedures to ensure prudent use of Student Employment resources, staying compliant with State and Federal tax and labor laws.
  • Advisement and Support: Meet with student employees in one-on-one advisement sessions to assist them in securing and succeeding in student employment positions on- and off-campus as well as facilitate support for students, faculty, and staff
  • Event Planning: Assist in planning and delivery of National Student Employment Awareness Week events, workshops, celebrations, and awar
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree, 1-3 years of applicable experience required. Preferably in Human Resources/Payroll/Career Center/Financial Aid or other front facing student roles.
  • Knowledge of student employment, federal work programs, and community service programs a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, organizational skills, multitasking skills, and computer skills (MS Office & Excel).
  • Adaptability to deal with ambiguity in a complex, changing environment.
  • Ability to travel between New York Tech's New York City and Long Island campuses.
  • Willingness to perform other job-related duties, as assigned

New York Tech considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate experience/expertise, education/training, key skills, geographic location, internal peer equity as well as market, organizational considerations and/or applicable collective bargaining agreement when extending an offer.
