Position Summary

The Studio Production Manager for the Communication Department is a full-time, 12-month staff member whose role is to serve as the primary strategist for the Department regarding its studio, media equipment, and production/performance facilities. The Studio Production Manager is tasked with outlining the plan for the best use and integration of media technology into the Department, and has complete responsibility for the installation, replacement, and maintenance of all media equipment and studio/lab facilities. They are charged with coordinating, scheduling, and staffing our studio, media labs and related facilities, and with hiring, training, and supervision of all student workers associated with them. The Studio Production Manager will work closely with our Media Production and Performance Studies faculty and report directly to the Communication Department Chairperson.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and assess strategic plan for optimal integration of media equipment, labs and studio facilities into strategic plan for the Communication Department as a whole.
  • Develop, implement, and assess tactical plan and associated budgets for coordination of media equipment and studio/lab facilities;
  • Install, maintain, and update all media equipment and studio/lab facilities assigned to the Communication Department. Support performance events, rehearsals, film shoots, etc., which sometimes occur outside of business hours. Support course and classroom needs as appropriate.
  • Supervise, train, and assign student tech facilitators/work study students/media production intern.
  • Organize, train, and schedule the availability of and access to all assigned media equipment and studio/lab facilities, including equipment ordering, check-in/out process, inventory, damage accountability process)
  • Advise the Chairperson and production/performance faculty regarding purchase and maintenenac of media equipment and facilities.
  • Advise Communication faculty and staff in the use and curricular integration of media equipment and facilities
  • Represent the Communication Department to other Departments and Colleges within the University regarding the optimal integration of media technology in an academic environment
  • Represent Villanova’s Communication Department to other Colleges and Universities regarding the optimal integration of media technology in an academic environment.
  • Perform additional duties and assist with special events/projects as assigned (will include some evenings/weekends).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree
  • Experience in multimedia production, training/instruction in multimedia production, studio management, and demonstrated achievement in support and administration of Apple Computers and Servers, web, film, and video production and editing facilities.
  • Good interpersonal skills, strong writing skills (educational/training materials and proposals for upgrade and modification of facilities and equipment), ability to problem solve, and ability to work with and manage others in a team-based environment. Must be familiar with Google Suite (Google docs, calendar, forms, etc).
  • Experience in studio management, multimedia equipment and production, filmmaking and editing, lighting design and light board operation, sound technologies, and the technology and instrumentation of Apple Computers and servers.
  • Skills in software/hardware related to multimedia production and Apple OS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Communication (Film Production, Media Studies) or Theatre Production preferred; can be waived in lieu of substantial relevant work experience
  • 3+ years experience in multimedia production, training/instruction in multimedia production, studio management, and demonstrated achievement in support and administration of Apple Computers and Servers, web, film, and video production and editing facilities.
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Training and/or experience training others regarding Apple Operating Systems, Adobe Suite (e.g. Premiere, Audition, Photoshop, Illustrator), DaVinci Resolve, Avid, Final Cut Pro, and related software/hardware. Should be familiar with relevant camera systems, such as Canon C-series and DSLR’s, Blackmagic 6K, and Sony mirrorless. Equipment Knowledge
  • Skills in software/hardware related to multimedia pcoduction and Applie OS.

Physical Requirements And/or Unusual Work Hours

  • Lifting, grip/gaffing, and moving of equipment by hand, and transporting to and from studio, classrooms, and labs.
  • Office and lab spaces will contain multiple computers, monitors, and other electronic devices. Studio space includes cables, large cameras, props. Some work at elevated heights (e.g., troubleshooting studio lighting).
  • May require to work evenings and weekends.
  • Equipment used: Computers, monitors, servers and related multimedia technology (cameras, sound, peripherals, etc).
