SVP, Finance

This role will be located at one of Discovery Land Company’s locations: Austin Surf Club, set outside of Austin, TX.

Austin Surf Club is seeking a SVP of Finance to join the Finance and Accounting Department.

The SVP of Finance is responsible for the project’s financial management, accounting practices, reporting, business planning, and financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversees the project accounting operations including cash management, budgeting, and financial reporting for operations.
  • Oversees and produces timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Coordinates the annual audit and tax processes along with project and corporate accounting and finance teams as applicable.
  • Manages the financial and operational reporting, budget preparation and roll-up of information for the project.
  • Prepares benchmarking and other analytical tools for review by Senior Management and project leadership.
  • Uses existing templates and processes, oversees preparation of business plan projections to ensure Club sustainability.
  • Prepares and implements standardized Policies & Procedures.
  • Develops and manages direct reports that typically include a Club Controller, Senior Director, Corporate Finance, Staff Accountants, AP/AR specialists, and other specialized corporate support team members.
  • Ensures strong relationship and supports the project’s COO and department heads.
  • Produces, updates, maintains, and monitors accounting procedures at the project.
  • Demonstrates familiarity with the principles and applications of US GAAP, tax accounting, and assures recordation of all transactions in compliance thereof.
  • Executes projects and tasks as requested by the Corporate CFO and Senior Management of Discovery Land Company.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Ten (10) years or more of experience including financial leadership within a business or business unit with scale and complexity; ideally within a resort development or mixed-use resort hospitality operation.
  • Financial acumen in development or operations creating accretive shareholder value.
  • Experience with investor relations.
  • Demonstrated track record of making capital expenditures with sound decision making and delivering to plan.
  • First-hand experience in effectively dealing with external constituents including banks and investors.
  • Experience with the following finance and accounting practices are required: Revenue recognition and cost of sales analysis; Cash management and banking relationship management; Budgeting, Planning and Forecasting.
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Tax Code, as it applies to real estate development.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office products – Word, Excel, and Outlook -- is required, as well as other accounting platforms and ERP platforms desirable.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical skills.

  • Must be able to work flexible work hours/schedule including evenings, weekends, and holidays. Long hours may be required due to business demands.

  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English; additional languages preferred.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including, but not limited to, working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, standing, walking, and moving for periods of greater than eight (8) hours, and lifting and carrying items sometimes greater than fifty (50) pounds.
