Temporary Part-Time Private Skate Instructor

Job Description

Skating School instructor will play a key role in the execution of our Learn-to-Skate and/or Adult Hockey instructional programs. In addition to following the curriculum and teaching skills on the ice, the instructor is expected to provide feedback to students during lessons and at the end of the session. The instructor will work with other instructors and program leadership to ensure that group placement is accurate, testing standards are met, and customer satisfaction is achieved. Depending on program needs, the instructor may be asked to assist with program administration tasks.

Qualifications

Must have experience coaching Learn-to-Skate, ice hockey, or sled hockey. Must have an active membership with United States Figure Skating, Learn-to-Skate USA, or USA Hockey to be considered. Ability to work with a diverse group of students with different skill levels is required.

Job Specific Qualifications

Ice skating (at a minimum, proficiency at teaching the skills of Snowplow Sam 1 through Basic 6. Experience teaching Freestyle or Ice Dance is a bonus).

Hockey (power skating, basic skills, team concepts). Must possess at least a Level 2 certification from USA Hockey.

Ability to create and execute lesson plans. Ability to follow a curriculum and to teach/test to the standards outlined in that curriculum.

Responsibilities

On Ice Duties:

  • Lead group skating lessons for students 3yo – Adult
  • Teach, demonstrate, and evaluate skating and/or hockey skills
  • Ensure a positive and safe environment for all participants
  • Adhere to lesson criteria and testing standards

Off Ice Duties

  • Develop practice plans
  • Help develop training curriculum
  • Assist with skate fitting
  • Assist with check-in
  • Other customer service duties as needed
  • Other administrative tasks as needed
