Reports To: Vice President of Operations

Location: 40-acre Antibody Production Facility


1. Scope of Responsibility:

The Veterinarian Farm Manager is responsible for the health and welfare of animals, ensuring that all animals are handled humanely and in compliance with state and federal regulations. This role ensures that animal studies are conducted with the goal of delivering high-quality products and services to customers. The position also includes managing farm operations across the 40-acre facility.


2. Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Direct oversight of up to 10 personnel on the 40-acre antibody production facility.


3. Position Requirements:

Qualifications based on education, resume, and/or work experience.

  • Education: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinarian Medicine Doctor (VMD).
  • Licensing: Pennsylvania veterinary license.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a veterinary practice, with at least 5 years of experience working with laboratory animals. Farm animal husbandry experience is a plus.
  • Skills:
  • Strong oral and written communication skills (English).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Windows-based computer systems.
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Experience with cGMP quality systems and manufacturing operations.
  • Strong leadership skills to give directions and communicate effectively.


4. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the Animal Care and Use Program: Ensure compliance with animal welfare standards and applicable regulations.
  • Manage the Program of Veterinary Care: Provide veterinary oversight for all clinical treatments and programs.
  • Institutional Membership: Act as a voting member on the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
  • CAPA Program: Assist in preparing investigation reports for the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) program.
  • Staff Training: Provide training to animal care staff on routine clinical procedures.
  • Clinical Treatments: Prescribe and direct all clinical treatments as needed.
  • Production and Husbandry Oversight: Supervise production and husbandry personnel to ensure the smooth operation of the farm.


5. Education & Certification:

  • Doctoral Degree: DVM or VMD required.
  • Other Requirements:
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to travel to other facilities as needed.


6. Physical Requirements:

  • This position is physically demanding, requiring the ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch throughout the day.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions.


7. Working Conditions:

  • Exposure to extremes of temperature (hot summers, cold winters).
  • Occasional exposure to farm equipment and loud noise levels on job sites.
