- [Narrator] Connecting your audio and MIDI hardware to your computer is the first step in setting up your computer-based home studio. Assuming you're setting up your system for the first time, start by installing Ableton Live 12 on your computer. The first time you start the program, you'll need to authorize it through Ableton's website. Next, connect your various devices to your system. First, connect your audio interface to your computer. Most interfaces today connect via USB, USB-C, or Thunderbolt cables. In most cases, the interface is powered through the cable connecting into your computer, but you may need to power the device by plugging it into the wall using an AC adapter. Most MIDI controllers also connect to computers using USB cables. Depending upon the available ports on your computer, you may need to purchase a USB to USB-C adapter or a USB hub.
