- [Instructor] DAX stands for Data Analysis Expressions. It's available on Power BI but its origins stem from older Microsoft products like Analysis Services in Power Pivot. Learning how to leverage DAX is an important part of mastering Power BI, because it strengthens our available data modeling options. We can create DAX queries in Power Query to set up connections to Analysis Services databases in the import mode, for example. But in this course, we're going to focus exclusively on creating DAX formulas in Power BI desktop after we load the data. DAX functions produce tables, columns, and measures as outputs from their formula expressions. There's also a lot of overlap between Excel and DAX functions for text, mathematical, and financial calculations.
