And while the exam syllabus doesn't mention BGP specifically, the fact remains that ExpressRoute uses BGP to facilitate the exchange of Azure and on-premises private IP address ranges over a private connection. So in case you're not familiar with BGP, we're going to cover some key terminology here just to get you comfortable for the exam. And we'll also touch on ExpressRoute limits and Microsoft best practices when it comes to BGP and route advertisements. So BGP sessions are used to exchange routing information between your network and Microsoft's network, and each peering requires two BGP sessions for high availability. And Microsoft doesn't support any router redundancy protocols, like HSRP or VRRP for high availability configurations.
