Virtual private networks (VPNs) and the cloud
- [Instructor] Securing connections to remote private networks over the internet is accomplished with virtual private networks or VPNs. Here, we're going to focus on VPN connectivity to secure connections to a cloud. So to get started with the virtual private network, we're talking about an encrypted network tunnel that's created between two end points over an untrusted network, like the internet. And that could come in the form of a client-to-site VPN where we have an individual client device, whether it's a smartphone, whether it's a laptop, desktop, does matter, but it's an individual client device that establishes an encrypted tunnel with a VPN appliance in the remote network and all traffic to that remote network goes through that protected encrypted VPN tunnel. We can also have a site-to-site VPN which is often used to link one network to another over the internet, however, through a secured and encrypted tunnel. So,…
