- Repair is particularly important for technology, as we produce a lot of this type of electronic waste and it's really hard to recycle it. So let's say you're a laptop producer. You have the option to design your product as a modular system. This means that certain parts that are likely to break or need upgrading as technology changes can be made into different parts that make it easier for the customer to replace or repair it. Given that many people get quite attached to their technology items, the value proposition for the customer is greater if they know that you are offering repairs and upgrades as time passes. What's even better is if you design your products to be repairable and they last longer, you can also offer to buy them back and then resell them.
