When to move a data scientist into a different role
- Data scientists can lend invaluable expertise in several ways. However, there are times when data scientists may find themselves in a role that does not adequately take advantage of their skill sets. Keeping a data scientist in the wrong position can lead to decreased productivity, disengaged employees, and even project failure. Let's look at how we can spot this misalignment and what we can do about it. Again, as we've discussed in previous videos, data scientists have a fundamental set of hard skills or technical skills, augmented with soft skills. These skills are rarely symmetrical and data scientists tend to lean towards one direction. So the first thing you'll want to look out for is whether the data scientist leans towards the hard skills or the soft skills.
