- Let's take a walk down memory lane. Remember when HR was an insular field with linear career paths? We'd come in as associates, we'd trudge our way up the vertical career path, maybe get into a senior role, a manager, a director, a VP, maybe even a chief role. Sure, those vertical career ladders still exist but so do career lattices and I want to talk about those. One of the biggest catalysts for the evolution of our field is the influx of different types of talent and roles into HR. It's no longer an insular field. Now we have marketers, engineers, data scientists, analysts and project managers. They've all entered the field of HR, but the reverse is also true. Many HR practitioners are moving into other areas of the business to build new skillsets and acumen. Some of them are bringing that expanded perspective back into HR later in their careers.
