Making requests that are taken seriously

- How to make requests to higher ups that are taken seriously. Busy executives and senior leaders are often juggling multiple responsibilities and decisions at once. So if you make an ambiguous or an unclear request, you're asking them to spend extra time trying to decipher your message, not helpful. They appreciate directness and a clear sense of purpose. Before you approach leadership, be sure about what you're asking for. Is it resources, approval, guidance, or something else? "I'd like your authorization to increase the budget for our offsite," or, "We'd like endorsement to reallocate resources." This makes it easier for them to understand what you want or need, facilitating their decision making. And if they need more details, they'll ask.
