From the course: Python vs. R for Data Science

Python vs. R

- Whether you've been coding for a while or you're brand new to coding, you've likely heard of Python and R, and for good reason. Python and R are two of the most popular coding languages around. They're used across industries, and most applications built today use one of these languages. Python and R both have great features, libraries, communities, and resources that make learning and thriving in each language relatively easy, but they each have distinct benefits and challenges as well. My name is Lavanya Vijayan. I am a coding instructor and an advocate for STEM education. In this course, I'll walk you through the basics of Python and R, and give you the context and knowledge you need to know which one is the tool you'll need next. I'll walk you through the history and benefits of both languages, and then take a deep dive into the specifics of how they each work with data. You'll also learn about common applications of Python and R to data science, so that by the end of this course, you'll be ready to begin using whichever language suits your project best. Welcome to Python versus R.
