- In this chapter, we'll take a look at a few case studies. The first case was originally posted by BSR, the Business for Social Responsibility, a global, non-for-profit organization that works with its network of more than 250 member companies and other partners to build a just and sustainable world. The case is about the UPS Orion System, a root optimization software project, designed to increase efficiency, cut costs, and reduce the environmental impact of UPS. UPS created the project to optimize delivery routes, which will lead to significant reduction in fuel usage and emissions. And just to give you an idea, reducing each driver's daily driving distance by just one mile could save UPS 50 million US dollars annually. However, the road to success was not easy.
