Get ready
- So strategy number one, the three Rs. Get ready. Why do I say that? Well, 76% of workers, employees, believe their company should be doing more to support their mental health. 78% of the employees in the workplace have revealed that they have struggled with their mental health since the pandemic, or even in the post-pandemic world. Why is this so important and why does it relate to the first R, ready? Companies and organizations need to get ready for the next wave of health, and that is mental health. Mental health is the future. Mental health is going to be no longer the taboo topic to talk about in the workplace. Why do we promote the ready? When companies are prepared and ready to provide their workforce with strategies, with resources, with tools for their mental health, they will begin to retain their workforce. And we know that when employees feel that their companies or organizations are lacking in resources or feel a sense of disengagement at work, this causes a $600 billion loss for companies annually in the United States alone. The workforce needs to be ready. That's number one. And why is it so key? Well, the return and the reorganization process back into work in the world is not a one size fits all solution. Employees are feeling emotional, mental pressure, whether it's returning back into work or somehow learning to re-humanize, it's not an easy process. It's not an on and off switch. It's a dimer switch. And so, in the past, companies were so focused on the bottom line which they still are today, but there's a shift in mindset going on now in organizational cultures. Rather than focusing on the productivity of your workforce, a different tactic is taking place. Focus on the wellbeing of your workforce. And that in turn, will demonstrate to your employees, wow, my company cares about me. I feel value. I feel a sense of belonging. I feel a sense of inclusion and engagement. And that is what the human brain desires most. A sense of inclusion, belonging, my company cares about me. And that, in turn, will help the company's bottom line. Because when your employees are feeling satisfied, healthy, resilient, strong, and happy, this will now positively affect the organization and the revenue model for any company. In the next chapter, we're going to discuss and do a deep dive into some of the challenges that organizations may anticipate in the return back to the workforce and into the world for their employees.
