Govt sets aside £1.7bn for Bulb
The government has set aside £1.7bn to allow energy supplier Bulb to continue supplying its 1.7m customers. The company collapsed into special administration on Monday, and will now be run by administrator Teneo until a buyer has been found or all customers have been moved. Teneo estimates that it will cost £2.1bn to keep the company trading until April 2022. Several energy providers have collapsed in recent months as wholesale gas prices soared to record highs. In October, the boss of Centrica warned that all households face increased costs as a result.
- Orbit Energy also confirmed it had ceased trading on Wednesday, making it the 23rd energy supplier to go bust since the beginning of September.

I’m no fan of the cap, however, if it is true, as has been suggested, that they were completely unhedged, then surely the blame cannot be placed entirely in the cap. They had the opportunity to buy volume within the cap pricing in period, and appears they either chose not to or were unable to.
