#AkumActForEducation This week, AKUMA focuses on conflict and climate change and explores their impact on education in Africa 🌍📚 📍 Cameroon As of September 2023, of the 6,970 schools in the North-West and South-West regions, 2,875 (41%) remain non-functional, an improvement from the 54% reported in the 2021/2022 school year. (Source: Education Cluster, UNICEF, 2024) 📍 Democratic Republic of Congo Insecurity has disrupted the education of three-quarters of a million children in 2022 and early 2023. (Source: UNICEF, 2023) 📍 Sudan The ongoing conflict has forced the closure of over 10,400 schools, mostly in conflict-ravaged regions, leaving 19 million children without access to education. (Source: UNESCO, 2024) 📍 Somalia Across southern and central Somalia, only about 30% of school-aged children had access to learning opportunities, with just 17% in the most conflict-affected areas.
