Below represents three years of work, resulting in the Beyond Plastic Certificate of Conformity for our commercial grades of PHA compounds, which are 100% OK Biodegradable Marine certified. By starting with clean, consistent, and unmodified materials, we were able to compound them into functional materials suitable for a wide range of traditional plastic processing equipment, including injection molding, extrusion, compression molding, thermoforming, and extrusion blow molding. We deliberately avoided cheap additives or modifiers that are toxic, even at low concentrations, and instead developed new ones to facilitate the crystallization of PHA's and enhance mechanical properties. These developments were achieved using minerals and other inert natural additives. It is crucial to be aware of greenwashing claims, their negative impact, and how they undermine consumer trust in functional bioplastic solutions. ASTM D6691 is just one of three tests that are part of this certification process, and should never be used alone to make any marine biodegradable claims. We would like to thank the staff at Normec-OWS for their role as our third-party lab services and their ability to provide consistent testing and results.
