MBS Impact Modifier, also known as MBS resin, is a copolymer comprising methyl methacrylate, butadiene, and styrene. Its compatibility with PVC is remarkable due to a solubility parameter ranging from 94 to 95, closely matching that of PVC. MBS Impact Modifier can improve impact performance, tensile strength, elongation at break, transparency, and light transmittance, often exceeding 90%. However, it should be noted that this modifier exhibits limited heat resistance and weather resistance, making it less suitable for long-term outdoor applications. Enhancing PVC Properties In the realm of PVC product manufacturing, MBS Impact Modifier as a toughening agent with excellent transparency. Beyond enhancing impact resistance and promoting transparency, MBS Impact significantly improves processability. During the plasticizing process, MBS interacts with PVC by intertwining and rubbing against it. This interaction not only facilitates the disintegration of PVC particles but also forms strong bonds with PVC particles, promoting PVC gelation. As a result, the melting time is reduced, material residence time in the extruder decreases, and PVC decomposition is prevented, contributing to enhanced processability. The introduction of ACR impact modifier ACR is a copolymer of monomers such as methyl methacrylate and acrylic ester. It is the best impact modifier developed in recent years and can increase the impact strength of materials by several tens of times. ACR belongs to the impact modifier of core-shell structure, consisting of a shell composed of methyl methacrylate ethyl acrylate polymer, and a rubber elastomer formed by crosslinking with butyl acrylate as the core chain segment distributed in the inner layer of particles. Especially suitable for impact modification of PVC plastic products for outdoor use, using ACR as an impact modifier in PVC plastic door and window profiles has the characteristics of good processing performance, smooth surface, good aging resistance, and high welding corner strength compared to other modifiers, but the price is about one-third higher than CPE.
